I am so proud of researcher HERTEL--for refusing to "RECANT" his scientific findings when such awesome POLITICL PRESSURE was put on him---even though his partner "recanted." In infant formulas, there maybe a loss of some vitamins. In expressed breastmilk, some protective properties may bedestroyed.... Warming a bottle by holding it undertap water or by setting it in a bowl of warm water,then testing it on your wrist before feeding, maytake a few minutes longer, but it is much safer".There have been very few scientific studies done onthe effect of eating food microwaved food. This israther surprising when you think about the factthat microwaves have been with us for only a fewdecades - and that in that time the incidence ofmany diseases has continued to increase.Two researchers, Blanc and Hertel, confirmed thatmicrowave cooking significantly changes foodnutrients. Hertel previously worked as a foodscientist for several years with one of the majorSwiss food companies. He was fired from his job forquestioning procedures in processing food becausethey denatured it. He got together with Blanc ofthe Swiss Federal Institute of Biochemistry and theUniversity Institute for Biochemistry.They studied the effect that microwaved food had oneight individuals, by taking blood samplesimmediately after eating. They found that aftereating microwaved food, haemoglobin levelsdecreased. "These results show anaemic tendencies.The situation became even more pronounced duringthe second month of the study".Who knows what results they would have found ifthey had studied people who ate microwaved food fora year or more?The violent change that microwaving causes to thefood molecules forms new life forms calledradiolytic compounds. These are mutations that areunknown in the natural world. Ordinary cooking alsocauses the formation of some radiolytic compounds(which is no doubt one reason why it is better toeat plenty of raw food), but microwaving cookingcauses a much greater number. This then causesdeterioration in your blood and immune system.In addition, they found that the number ofleucocytes increases after eating microwaved food -something which haematologists take very seriously, because this is often a sign of highly harmfuleffects, such as poisoning.Also, after eating microwaved food, cholesterollevels increased. Hertel said "Common scientificbelief states that cholesterol values usually alterslowly over longer periods of time. In this study,the markers increased rapidly after the consumptionof the microwaved vegetables." He believes hisstudy tends to confirm new scientific data thatsuggest cholesterol may rapidly increase in theblood secondary to acute stress. "Also," headded, "blood cholesterol levels are lessinfluenced by cholesterol content of food than bystress factors. Such stress-causing factors canapparently consist of foods which contain virtuallyno cholesterol - the microwaved vegetables."The results were published in "Search for Health"in the Spring of 1992. How was this researchgreeted? A powerful trade organisation, the SwissAssociation of Dealers for Electroapparatuses forHouseholds and Industry somehow made the Presidentof the Court of Seftigen issue a `gag order'.Hertel and Blanc were told that if they publishedtheir findings they would face hefty fines or up toone year in prison. In response to this, Blancrecanted his findings. Hertel, on the other hand,went on a lecture tour and demanded a jury trial.FINALLY, in 1998 the Court `Gag Order' wasremoved. In a judgment delivered at Strasbourg on25 August 1998 in the case of Hertel v.Switzerland, the European Court of Human Rightsheld that there had been a violation of Hertel'srights in the 1993 decision. The Court decidedthat the `gag order' prohibiting him form declaringthat microwaved food is dangerous to health wascontrary to the right to freedom of expression. Inaddition, Switzerland was sentenced to paycompensation of F40,000.In Summary: Blanc and Hertel found that eatingmicrowaved food:Increases cholesterolIncreases white blood cell numbersDecreases red blood cell numbersCauses production of radiolytic compounds (compounds unknown in nature)Standing in front of a microwave is also highlydamaging to your health. Perhaps you have alreadyfelt this intuitively? We know that cells explodein the microwave - just fry an egg in yourmicrowave. We are made up of trillions of cells. Sowork out how many are getting damaged if you standin front of your microwave for 5-10 minutes.In the past I had been told that it was importantfor people to stop eating microwaved food, but Idid not pay too much attention to this because Ihad been microwave cooking for years. I neverthought much about it but I suppose that I figuredthat if something was so bad for us, then therewouldn't be so many people using it. Little did Iknow.When I first began seeing clients for sessions ofkinesiology, I did not worry too much about tellingthem to give up eating microwaved food. However, Ikept a record of all of the corrections that wereneeded for each client when they came in. Now, oncea correction is made, it is to be hoped that thecorrection will stay in place for a long time tocome, hopefully months if not years. People oftenask me "How long will it last?" Once that answer wasremedied, the client would begin to get better.Using muscle testing, I went through the process oftesting if the cause was electrical,chemical/nutritional, emotional or structural.Again and again the same answer would come up -electrical. When I then went through a range ofpossible electrical causes, the same answer againcame up again and again - the person had eatenmicrowaved food! Incidentally, this answer nevercame up when a person had NOT eaten microwavedfood.I began to tell all of my clients on the firstvisit that under NO circumstances were they ever todo microwaved cooking again. I gave this a higherpriority than any of things that are normallyconsidered as health risks, such as cigarettes oralcohol. Immediately I began to get a markedimprovement in the results I was getting. Long termproblems such as headaches, back aches andemotional instability went away within a few weeks.Other kinesiologists can confirm these results. Bridgman, who has years of experience as akinesiologist, said "Of all the people I test forallergies, 99.9% so far show severe sensitivity toany microwaved food".I experienced the effect of eating microwaved foodfor myself one time. I had been doing quite a lotof kinesiology and feeling on top of the world whenfor no apparent reason I began to feel rather`grey' and rather low. I realised that I needed abalance from a kinesiologist. Sure enough, I wasout of balance. When the kinesiologist used muscletesting to see why my body had gone out of balance,the answer came up ... microwaved food! The troublewas, I couldn't remember eating any. Until Iremembered a particular vegetarian restaurant I hadbeen to. When I went back to the restaurant andasked them if they microwaved their food, they toldme that they did.So be warned! Many restaurants use microwavedcooking, even `health' restaurants. Ask ifthe "steamed vegetables" are in fact steamed - orare they microwaved? I have sent meals back whenthey have not been what they were described on themenu, much to the surprise of the restaurant owners.Some of the above information on microwaved foodwas published in an Eight Volume Lawyers Cyclopediawhich is used by lawyers who sue in medical cases.Who knows? One day there may be a class actionlawsuit against microwaves. Irradiation of Food: (Note: Irradiation is not thesame as microwaving, but they are similar in that both use unnatural frequencies to alter food).The Cornell University in 1977 irradiated somesugar and fed it to rats. The type of cell damageshown on post mortem was the same as if the ratsthemselves had been irradiated!Irradiation of Food: Public Citizen has releasedthe English translation of a recent German studyrevealing that a chemical formed in irradiated foodcan damage DNA.The study confirms what safe-food advocates haveknown for more than thirty years: that exposingfood to ionising radiation can lead to theformation of bizarre new chemicals called "uniqueradiolytic products" that can cause serious healthproblems.One such chemical, known as 2-DCB,caused "significant DNA damage" in the colons ofrats that ate the substance. The chemical - which,ironically is a well-known "marker" for determiningwhether food has been irradiated" - has never beenfound naturally in any food on earth.The study was conducted in 1998 under the auspicesof two prominent pro-irradiation organizations. Youcan also easily heat up food by using a wok. Ifsomeone is coming home late, and you want to givethem warm food when they arrive, put a saucepan lidover the food while it is on a plate. Put the plateof food on a simmering saucepan of water. It willstay warm without drying up. Microwave cooking is one of the most important

causes of ill health. It is certainly one of the

most ignored.

There was a lawsuit in 1991 in Oklahoma. A woman

Logic suggests that if heating is all there is to

microwave cooking, then it doesn't matter how

something is heated. Blood for transfusions is

routinely warmed, but not in microwave ovens. Does

it not therefore follow that microwaving cooking

does something quite different?

A little evidence of the harm caused by microwaving

cooking was given by the University of Minnesota in

rather surprising when you think about the fact

that microwaves have been with us for only a few

decades - and that in that time the incidence of

many diseases has continued to increase.

Two researchers, Blanc and Hertel, confirmed that

microwave cooking significantly changes food

nutrients. Hertel previously worked as a food

scientist for several years with one of the major

Swiss food companies. He was fired from his job for

questioning procedures in processing food because

they denatured it. He got together with Blanc of

the Swiss Federal Institute of Biochemistry and the

University Institute for Biochemistry.

They studied the effect that microwaved food had on

eight individuals, by taking blood samples

immediately after eating. They found that after

eating microwaved food, haemoglobin levels

decreased. " These results show anaemic tendencies.

Who knows what results they would have found if

they had studied people who ate microwaved food for

a year or more?

The violent change that microwaving causes to the

food molecules forms new life forms called

(which is no doubt one reason why it is better to

eat plenty of raw food), but microwaving cooking

causes a much greater number. This then causes

deterioration in your blood and immune system.

In addition, they found that the number of

leucocytes increases after eating microwaved food -

something which haematologists take very seriously,

because this is often a sign of highly harmful

effects, such as poisoning.

Also, after eating microwaved food, cholesterol

levels increased. Hertel said " Common scientific

felt this intuitively? We know that cells explode

for people to stop eating microwaved food, but I

did not pay too much attention to this because I

That microwaves are not healthy has been known a long time--anything that is

not good for pregnant women to be near is not in general healthy. Nonethless,

many restaurants use them and we eat the food without knowing, and we do not

all suffer. This is a 'problem' with such a list: one, that any and every

news release is passed on--do any of us believe everything we read everytime?

we should not if we are on this forum, and two, all must be taken within

context. Vry few people today DO not have micorwaves, I do not, but most home

microwaves now are made with combos, where you can turn off or not use the

microwave part. Microwave heating alone is not IN most cases tHE primary

cause, which is why one always needs to know more, the details behind every

Hi Carole,

These are all long term effects and there are so many other exposures to

pollutants and NON-FOOD foods, depressing the immune system that one really

can't quantify the damage of each individual exposure. Nevertheless, you and

me are among the minority that do not have a microwave oven at home. I was

just hoping it woud spread to more people. As a matter of fact among

otherwise health aware people--microwave cooking is not one of the common

things they avoid.
