Guest guest
Years ago I recall reading a very informative book called Nerves In Collision by Walter C. Alvarez, M.D. The book was primarily about what Dr. Alvarez called non-convulsive epilepsies. It may be available through the local library system today. Essentially Dr. Alvarez, M.D. defined epilepsy as being electrical in nature. Dr. Alvarez talked about how surprised he was that a medicine known as Dilantin could reduce seizures in some people (not all). Dr. Alvarez said that some types of epilepsies would show up clearly on EEGs while others would not (the EEG being a good machine but still an imperfect machine). Dr. Alvarez also said that in some cases of epilepsy (not all), it appeared that a microscopic scar or injury point was what was behind some epilepsies (not all). Dilantin is not for everyone - Dr. Alvarez, M.D. said that himself - but he also said it was a known medicine which for some people allowed them to deal with epilepsy a little better. Dilantin was one of the very first anti-epilepsy medicines developed which clearly worked for a subgroup of those with epilepsy. Best wishes.
