Arnold ,

you are intitled to your opinions but to judge us for making a decesion to

proceed with surgery to CURE our son is one that we can live with. Our son

has a focus to his seizures and removing that focus will eliminate his

seizures and give him the life that he wants. Yes we have tried it all

including alternative medicines none of which worked and some amde him worse.

sow ehn you get to apoint where your child is in adolescents is seizing at

school , is wetting himself in frontof his classmates is angry and depressed

by these problems, and you have tried all the conventional meds and then you

don't recognize your child and they don't either , you go for the chance to

be seizure free. everyone has to make difficult decesions and giving my child

the best opportunity at a bright future is the best decesion we can make .

and we haev done that with the doctors....... And no they are not playing

god.We all do what is in the best interest of our children and do it with

Love.

Hi Arnold -- I'm afraid my husband has one of those " worse cases " . We visit

the emergency room at least once a month, and the last time almost killed

him as he went into stasis for 3 hours. We have tried a lot of alternative

methods. And I agree that the surgery is barbaric. My main concern is that my

husband remains who he is and also that he lives a somewhat normal life.

Complicating matters is that he is a university professor who survives by

what he knows, and it would be most disturbing to loose any of that.

What I'd like to know is what changes about the person when they take part

of your brain away....

Try everything BEFORE surgery- First do no HARM!

The idea of surgery for epilepsy shows the degree of arrogance and contempt

of the practitioners of this BARBARIC procedure which should only be used in

the most hopeless experimental case where EVERYTHING-including slternative

medical therapies have been tried and failed.

That said, I would then focus on how severe is the problem?

How frequent are the seizures?

At what age did they begin?

See my post on B Vitamons.

Have You tried L-Taurine?

Have you tried Calcium and Magnesium?

Have you changed your diet?

Good luck

Arnold, do you have a website? Or could you email me info on the vitamins,

calcium, and magnesium. My son is " autistic " secondary to the vaccinations.

Thank you,

Arnold,

It's nice to know someone else recognizes the contempt and arrogance inherent in the way the decision for surgery is made. Let us hope more people, or their parents, will begin insisting on explore other causes of and treatments for epilepsy\seizures, before willingly agreeing to further brain damage.

If the cause of the scar tissue (thought to be causing the seizures) is not

removed, you can expect to see seizures return in time as new scar tissue

forms. The current thinking, that scar tissue is the " cause " of seizures, is

not flawless, nor is it simply fact. Numbers of people have abnormal EEGs

and no seizures whatsoever, while others have seizures when all the tests on

their brains check out normal. Scar tissue may be caused by the seizures,

not always be the cause of them. If this were true, why doesn't everyone

with brain damage have seizures?

There are some other medical models of seizures which hold up to scientific

scrutiny and research. You may want to look into the research of

Fried, in New York, who has written several books. I received the same

promises of " cure " as you are hearing now; and it is simple magical thinking

to believe that the only problem is scar tissue and that surgical removal

with constitute a cure. You may well see tremendous improvement, but will

this be permanent, or will the seizures return as whatever condition causes

them continues untreated. Yours is a difficult decsion and we all want to

hope so much to be cured--I did. There may well be safer alternatives for

you to investigate before deciding upon surgery. There likely is no quick

and easy answer.

Terri,

thank you for aknowledging our courage to help our child. I now work for the

epilepsy foundation and i do agree that we all have to impower our selves

with knowledge. for without it we are blind.we have to try every possible

option before we come to something like this. we do with so much fear, hope ,

courage and love. its a long journey...........

I admire for your courage!! That would be a very hard decision to make, but

you explained the factors that led you to this decision beautifully.

Only out of the deepest kind of love for our children, could we bear to

watch them go through something like that (surgery).

Sincerely,

Terri

Zoe, I think you are right. Read very carefully www.ouralexander.org and see

the cavalier way this little boy was treated. Worse than a guinea pig.

Scaring on the brain, how does this happen? Viral? Blow to head? Metabolic?

Vaccines? Birth Injury?

As I have posted way back, a great web site was " how to kill a neuron " ? I

think it states a number of consequences. Knowing what the etiology

particularly is to the brain problem, in some cases, aren't those alleviated

by other means other than surgery? Ie..vaccines, possibly chelation and

detoxing it out? Metabolic, by having the substrates for the ATP to work?

Viral, anti-virals, IVIg and other things to boost the immune system? In

other words, what is a permanet brain injury, and what isn't? That would

prove to be interesting to me? What constitutes permanent and what doesn't?

Anne,

As you approach this difficult decision I think it would be helpful for you

to consult with an expert in neorology who does not earn his or her living

practicing surgical procedures or recommending same.

Dr. Feldman,MD, former Professor of Neurology at one of the major

teaching Hospitals in New York City and now working with Null,Ph.D.;the

author and radio host leading the alternative medical movement comes to mind

as being very well suited. He is located in New York City. I do not know

where you live, but there may very well be others similarly situated in

other parts of the country. Most of the doctors practicing alternative

medicine are members of the American College for Advancement in Medicine

(ACAM) their website is www.acam.org they give referrals to local doctors.

their telephone # 800-532-3688.
