Hi Kara, I took PTU for 2 years then opted for RAI. It really effects

everyone in a different way. RAI made me go into a thyroid storm and

had to take a very strong beta blockers plus high dose of PTU. It made

my eyes quite blurry and dry. Had to use a lot of artificial tears.

That happened in 2004, and am now having problems getting my Armour

adjusted for me.Grrr

This does not happen to everyone you see.

Hi Kara

I had RAI and your hyper mental state sounds very familiar to me. The only

thing I can do to help it is take sublingual ativan...and I'm not hyper, I can

guarantee it. It seems to be worse for me when I'm stressed. I've concluded

that it is the autoimmune disease - just not my thyroid. So for me, being hypo

does not get rid of the mental angst...just can't blame my thyroid!

new to group- considering radioactive iodine

Hello

I see that there are mixed thoughts here about RAI.

I've had Grave's disease for about 4 yrs now and have taken PTU and

I'm currently on Methimazole. The meds work for the physical symptoms,

but I seem to continue to have a hyper mental state. I don't deal with

stress well, I experience anxiety, insomnia (and then fatigue), and

generally feel frustrated, impatient, and irratible.

Two different endocrinologists have suggested RAI but I've been

reluctant. I've put it off for a long time and I'm really sick of

feeling like this.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

My dr. acts like becoming hypo is much easier to treat but some of the

messages here lead me to believe otherwise.

I know this is a major decision, and each person has unique

experiences, but any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Kara
