Guest guest
Dear Kate, Yes, it is nice to know something about you after all this time, in addition to your thyroid levels. Moving is one of the most stressful events in life, right up there with divorce or death, so I can imagine that your state of health is being affected. You sound like a very strong, capable person, so I know you'll come through this OK. Anyone else out there? . . . AntJoan ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Hi Ant Joan Yes it has been quiet. It's hard to distinguish the real members from the spam sometimes. I'm in the frantic process of moving - and showing my house, and having house inspectors in...all the fun stuff. My son and daughter are both expecting before Christmas so this is an interesting time for me. It's a hard time too as my daughter's pregnancy is high risk, as is her health in general. She is extremely ill and is diabetic. She is recovering from surgery for ovarian cancer...so it's kind of a tense time for me. My muscles are all in terrible spasms most of the time - and it isn't something that I can change easily. My thyroid meds are consistant but I am sure my levels are all over the place. Sometimes my heart races like crazy for no apparent reason. That usually happens on a day that I'm having all sorts of hyper symptoms. Then other days I simply can't stay awake or get warm...but I do think it is mostly stress. I hate packing! We've been here almost 18 years so there is an incredible amount of 'stuff' to deal with. My kids are all grown up - and left home - and have left stuff behind of course. My daughter in New York isn't likely to come and get her stuff. My daughter in town has had to throw out stuff she wanted already as she and her sig other have a tiny house and one child already. My son lives in a tiny apartment - and somehow boy's stuff is big stuff (e.g. scuba gear).... Maybe others on the list have some personal stuff to contribute. It helps to 'know' who we are 'talking' with.... Kate Re: Snagged first new spammer In a message dated 4/17/2007 8:57:26 A.M. Guest guest
Hi all, I was a bit under the weather last week with a cold/flu thing.so wasn't up to talking much. My name is Patti and I've been on the list for a couple of years now I think. I am now list moderator I was dx'd about 15 years ago with hyperT..I'm one of the few that took RAI treatment. I have done well over the years, taking meds each day . About 2 years ago I go Rocky Mt Tick fever along with another tick disease, Ehrlichiosis. I am a mobile dog groomer here in the deep south, and though I was/am very careful about ticks, it only takes one bite. Well, long story short, I was sick for several months with that, and then my adrenals trashed out. So now, besides having No thyroid, I have NO adrenals. Ain't life grand. So besides synthroid, I'm now on bloody steroids. We have tried " resting " the adrenals but nothing seems to help, so it looks like I'm on steroids for life now too. I'm taking the lowest possible amount I can take, about .5 of dex. So far my weight is doing ok, I really haven't gained much, maybe 5lbs in two years. Right now I am attempting to cut back even more, taking half a pill every other day. But really, consider how sick others are with both thyroid and Addisions [adrenal failure] I'm not all that bad off. I am still working full time, infact I run two business's. I still ride my horses etc. There are some days when I seem to crash a bit, but considering my work load, no one is surprised. <wink> I do have to watch " stressful' situations.things that would 'tax' the normal person , can really hit me hard and take me down fast, so I must always be prepared to take more steroids as needed, since my body won't produce more on command..<sigh> sometimes I forget ! oh well...such is life. Guest guest
Hi Patti You sound like you are doing just grand, all things considered! Well done:-) I too have been diagnosed with s as well as having Graves and yes, have been struggling some but getting there. At first I was on too high a dose of steroids and ended up in hospital suicidal (I can't explain how it makes you feel) but now that my steroid dose is lowered I feel much better tho i have noticed gradual weight gain. I am on 15mg per day (10mg a.m., 5 mg p.m.) although I got a cold recently and had to double that as I was floored. Like you I feel I am doing well carrying on my job (part time 20-30hrs) as well as helping hubby on our smallholding and the usual running after the family etc (you know how it is). What I am learning though is to listen to my body and I know now if I am pushing too hard I get tired and I am learning to just say I am off for a sleep if I have to. Took a bit of getting used to but stops me " crashing out " as I call it. I have now been diagnosed with pernicious anaemia too. One thing that is bothering me is I am having stomach pains and unsure if this is the steroids - have you had this at all? It is all very confusing knowing whether symptoms are caused by Graves or s sometimes. Unlike you, I never took RAI, I changed dr and am now on block and replace therapy. Get so sick of taking these tablets, eh?! One thing I see is that you are taking your steroids every other day? My Dr stressed to me how important it was to take the tablets at the right time and never not to take them but that is interesting. I know when I am needing to take my dinner time dose because by then I am very tired. The morning tablet I take as soon as I waken and he told me always to take it as soon as I waken. Let me know how you get on and look after yourself:-) hugs Grace RE: Snagged first new spammer Hi all, I was a bit under the weather last week with a cold/flu thing.so wasn't up to talking much. Guest guest
Sorry for the confusion, I take .5 one day and then .25 the next day and then back to .5 etc etc etc. In this way , hopefully , I am cutting my steroid use down per week. Infact my doctor said I could even try one pill every other day but I felt that wouldn't be such a good idea, I was afraid of crashing. Ok, your stomach. This is what I have found thru research etc. Its more to do with 's then the steroids. Seems the adrenals help to regulate stomach enzymes or some such thing, sorry to be so vague.but I found that I was having some stomach 'issues' before I was dx'd. I would eat something and it would just 'sit' there..and I would blow up and get very uncomfortable. Not enough enzymes to start the digestive process I guess. So if I get 'low' in the steroid dept, I will notice my stomach acting up. I do take some Ultra Enzyme type supplement and that helps a lot. I am on dex. Most folks are other forms that I can't recall at the moment..and I have pushed to have him switch me over to the more 'natural form' of cortisol replacement, which means taking pills 3 times a day to follow the natural flow of our own cortisol production, but he felt the dex would work best because I don't have, oh whats the word, when you have adrenal failure of both the interior and exterior .....fill in the blank. Sorry, brain dead today, been a long dam day and this is what happens when I start running low on dex. Really bad patients need to take a second drug, starts with an F. Flornuf or whatever its call. I don't have to do that. Sorry for the lack of GREAT information.I'm just tired. Gotta cook dinner and feed the horses too...and my feet hurt ! Guest guest
Hi Patti I see - that explains some - yes I understand the brain tiredness - you sound like you are doing a lot. Well at least I know why I am having stomach pains:-) I agree with you that you are better doing things the way you are with your steroids, taking them alternating doses as you reduce them rather than take a day, miss a day as I would be afraid of crashing too. My dr has said that he is about to start me on Flurinef which is the other drug you talked about - it is something to do with the internal and external cortex of the adrenals. I am hoping when I go on that that I feel less tired as I am tired of being tired!!? Lol Keep your chin up, I think you are doing great, probably too much Lol. Look after yourself and keep in touch. Gotta go now as late here and I am getting sleepy. Grace ----Original Message---- From: psalmon@... Guest guest
Thank you ! Internal and external cortex of the adrenals and the drug is Flurinef. Sorry to sound soooo dam spacey but some days I swear my brain is on overload. I have had the adrenal test twice a year for 2 years and they can't get a dam response out of them. I was SO hoping that if they rested I could stop the steroids. No such luck though. Oh I know the feeling about being tired, I get sick of listening to myself say I'm tired.I feel sorry for those around me ! Its about time for bed for me too..I have another long day tomorrow. Guest guest
My heart goes out to you. So tired and work yet to do and your feet sore too. That's exactly how I feel at the end of the day. Maybe it is thyroid related??? Guest guest
I am a mobile dog groomer and I spent a lot of time standing on my feet in the trailer on a rather hard floor. I have mats but still, yikes, at the end of the day my feet will be burning. I am going to try to find some new mats and double them up a bit and see if that helps. I don't' think it thyroid related, probably just from standing for long long hours without a break. I feel I'm one of the lucky ones.I can at least function and work. Guest guest
Hi Ant Joan It's nice to know you. Funny how we all try to keep our anonymity on a 'support forum'. But it's great to hear about who you are. So you live in Brooklyn. I think I've been through there. The first time I went to New York City was the Christmas when I was 13. My older brother had drowned that previous summer and my folks couldn't face Christmas at home. We stayed with friends in Manhatten. It was a good trip. The next time was with my husband when we finally made it to visit my eldest daughter who lives on Long Island. That was a summer visit and went really well. Since historically we have not had a great relationship it was a good thing to do. Then just March this year I bought a motorcycle on EBay and had to drive to 'Yorkland Heights' which is just north of the Bronx to pick it up. The weather was ugly and we went down on one day, stayed put one day, and then back the next. Fun drive but too long. I think I'm feeling my age nowadays. When I set still for any length of time I get really stiff and sore. Congratulations on changing your occupation midlife. I did that a little earlier. I started out accounting but realized that computers were the way of the future. So, back to school for me. I had two children then and was a 'single parent'. I switched and it was a good move. When I had such a terrible time at my last job (high stress) my doctor suggested changing occupation again. I just looked at him and couldn't believe what he was suggesting. It had been a hard switch to computers and I sure wasn't prepared for another major change. This was during the time that I was for sure hyper, before I was diagnosed. Thank you for sharing, Kate Re: Snagged first new spammer In a message dated 4/19/2007 11:44:46 A.M.
