Last month I had my blood tested for the first time in almost 6 months as part of an " annual " physical (my PCP's letter did not contain ranges, only comments): TSH < 0.01 T3 = 203 " elevated " FT4 = 1.8 " upper limit of normal " Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI) = 2 " elevated " To my surprise and disappointment, my PCP wants me to go back to my " RAI cures hyperthyroidism " endocrinologist because, without any symptoms, because my blood tests indicate that I am hyperthyroid and need treatment or something dire may happen. This is the same PCP that had my formally perfectly healthy large lymph node in my left armpit scanned repeatedly (about a half dozen times with no change in size), ordered a fine needle aspiration biopsy (a dozen samples taken without any " findings " ) even though " my " surgeon said that procedure was not very useful, and eventually " my " surgeon did a " normal " biopsy which produced a 4 page pathology report which stated that they didn't find anything. About the only " complaint " (I wonder why doctors label our input that way on the reports they keep on us?) I have is the weight gain (about 60 pounds) that I put on while taking methimazole until my TSH value indicated that I was hypothyroid (despite my input the first month of treatment that this was happening and both my PCP & endo independently insisted that it couldn't be the medication but my life style (Male Steer Feces!!!). I'm of the opinion of ignoring my PCP's dire warnings regarding my blood test results. Anybody think otherwise? TIA.

Guest guest
No. I stopped, IIRC, about 18 months ago, and did not resume when TSH levels began to fall back from hypo levels to hyper levels, per my endocrinologist's instructions. Guest guest
I am on Armour thyroid and my TSH is .005 very low, but I am not hyperthyroid. You must go by how you feel and not by a lousy blood test. Guest guest
Mia, Thanks for your reply. BTW, IMHO, if one is taking a thyroid hormone replacement/supplement that is sufficient for the body's requirements, then the pituitary gland will not produce very much TSH because there is no need for more thyroid hormone production. --Bruce From: Mia Harrod <miaharrodcharter (DOT) <mailto:miaharrod% 40charter. net> net> Subject: RE: Should I go back to my " RAI cures hyperthyroidism " endocrinologist? hyperthyroidism@ <mailto:hyperthyroi dism%40grou ps.com> groups. com Date: Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 9:04 PM Are you on any thyroid meds now? _____ From: hyperthyroidism [mailto:hyperthyroi dism] On Behalf Of Bruce Rubin Sent: Wednesday, April 15, 2009 8:46 PM gravesdiseasesuppor tgroup groups; hyperthyroidism groups; thyroid groups Subject: Should I go back to my " RAI cures hyperthyroidism " endocrinologist?
