Guest guest
Hi does anyone know how to tell on a blood test report for the thyroid, if you are converting T4 to T3. I have a copy of mine but don't know what to look for, or is that a special test? Thanks, Chris
Guest guest
If you are on L-thyroxine and not regaining your health, and you still have persistent symptoms, and your Free t4 is on the high side and your Free T3 is on the low side, then this is an indication you are not converting. This is why some people need to take T3 only - or Armour Thyroid. luv - Sheila Could anyone please tell me how you know if you are converting T4 to T3?I know it may require a specific blood test but do the T4 readings give any indication or are there any physical symptoms? Thanks No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG. Guest guest
My T4 is on the low side still, at last test is was 14. something and my TSH was 3.3, I believe my T4 should be higher than that?sheilaturner <sheilaturner@...> wrote: If you are on L-thyroxine and not regaining your health, and you still have persistent symptoms, and your Free t4 is on the high side and your Free T3 is on the low side, then this is an indication you are not converting. Guest guest
You can get your FREE T3 tested through NPTech Services (see attached). You need to get your blood drawn by the nurse (if you ask nicely) at your local surgery or you might have to get it done at a private hospital, but it would be worth it to know if your T4 is converting to the active t3. Guest guest
My docs check tsh, free t4, free t3, AND reverse t3 levels. docs told me that the free t3 and reverse t3 levels need to be looked at in conjunction with eachother to work out what is happening with the conversion of t4 to t3. i have free t3 at the lowest end of normal (as far as the ref range goes) and my reverse t3 is above the recommended ref range, which shows that i am converting to reverse t3 rather than t3. my free t3 levels have been dropping since last year, despite taking thyroxine every day. Guest guest
I wish we all had a doctor who appreciated the need for such testing Pat - and more than that, I wish we all had a local laboratory who was happy to test what the GP ordered, and not go over his/her head and refuse to do these on the grounds they are saving the NHS money. Because it shows you are not converting to the active T3, is yhour GP prepared to give you a trial of either T4/T3 combination therapy either synthetic, or natural? You need T3 - can't live without it. luv - Sheila My docs check tsh, free t4, free t3, AND reverse t3 levels. docs told me that the free t3 and reverse t3 levels need to be looked at in conjunction with eachother to work out what is happening with the conversion of t4 to t3. i have free t3 at the lowest end of normal (as far as the ref range goes) and my reverse t3 is above the recommended ref range, which shows that i am converting to reverse t3 rather than t3. my free t3 levels have been dropping since last year, despite taking thyroxine every day.P .. Guest guest
Yes my 'usual' doctor recommended that I try Natural Thyroid Extract however I'm a bit frightened of doing that because I had a really bad reaction to a very small amount of T3. My doc is great, but I've gone to a second doc for a second opinion, to ease my mind. The second doc specialises in hormone stuff and has also suggested using NTE or a comb of T4 and T3, but wants to check my thyroid function levels again + adrenal function + my sex hormones first before suggesting anything. This second doc is also good and has ordered TSH, t4, t3, reverse t3, antibodies, as well as DHEA, cortisol (but only a blood test for this so I will be getting back to them to ask for urine test), iron studies, b12 and folic acid. they are also checking oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels (through a saliva test). also re-checking vit d levels + serum copper/ceruloplasmin levels via blood test. i'm having the bloods taken in the next couple of days. after all of those tests, hopefully i will have some blood left in my veins! i'm just happy that they are willing to test me for these things. will be very interested to see what my results will be. Guest guest
Hi, Symptoms tend to be still a large number of hypo symptoms despite a low TSH and good FT4 if the FT3 is done then this will be lower in its range than the FT4 Subject: Converting T4 to T3 Could anyone please tell me how you know if you are converting T4 to T3? I know it may require a specific blood test but do the T4 readings give any indication or are there any physical symptoms?
