I'm really concerned about my mother..she has Raynauds ( for 25 years and

says she got after a bad frostbite). She has a positive ANA, and about 3 or 4

months ago she got a cyst on the end of her finger right below the nailbed. It

got infected and the doctor put her on antibiotics..now tonight the white cyst

is back.. I'm really concerned its CREST. Although her hands aren't black like

the ones in the pic. You can tell it's a calcium deposit and then it grows and

swells. She also has like 3 tips of her fingers that are very crooked and

deformed..the doctor said it was from overuse and brushing the Afghan dogs I

had.. The doctor is a nurse practioner and isn't concerned about CREST and

doesn't

think she has it...she has many of the symptoms though..thanks for any

info..Kim

Hi Kim,

One of my best friends has scleroderma. Typically, the fingers curve inward,

making the hand appear claw-shaped. Cuts and ulcers are common on the finger

but not really blisters. Your mom can have an autoantibody test for scl-70

antibodies to help diagnose scleroderma if her symptoms are troubling. Take

care,

Eaine

Elaine, My mother has a little calcium deposit under a knot at the end of her

finger. It swells up and becomes a big knot that then ulcerates. The joints

below three fingernails are deformed with knots like from arthritis..thanks Kim
