Guest guest
Howdy, I'm determined to pick all of yall's brains as much as possible. This is my first semester back in grad school and I have been sick as a dog. I get over one cold or flu and then catch another. I've especially had a hard time with coughing. I tried Western medicine but, once again, it not work for me. I would like to find a natural immune system booster, but so many of them say, " do not use if you have an autoimmune disease. " Since Grave's fits in that category, I'm kind of screwed. Has anyone found anything that works? Thanks, Lonie
Guest guest
Dear Lonie, Congrats on going back to grad school! I remember my first year, I was interning in a pre-school for children with delays, and caught one flu after another. My supervisor was a real b----, and gave me a hard time about it, although it was not my fault--the teachers there told me that they all got sick like that the first 3 years, until they got immune to those germs. Here's what I found that helped my immune system (I also don't like Western medicine): Upon first clue you might be getting sick, take an aspirin (I take the coated ones); aspirin stimulate the immune system. Then take 2 teaspoons of Sambucol (an Israeli concoction made of elderberry, found in health food stores) every morning and evening until you feel normal again (I use the sugar free variety). Those 2 things work if you haven't gotten really sick yet, as they keep the viruses from replicating. Ones those little buggers start to grow, if you can't catch the cold on time, there are things I use to shorten its duration. Wild oil of oregano (purchased in a health food store) is great for killing bacteria and viruses. You can buy a book that tells you how to use it. It is a liquid, that you dispense w/a dropper. You can put a few drops directly on the throat if you have a sore throat; you can gargle with it; you can leave it on your nostrils overnight to cure a sinus infection (be sure to coat your nostrils first w/vaseline, as the stuff burns the skin, it is very strong); you can even put it full strengh on salads or in tomato soup (it tastes like oregano and oil). Of course there is always chicken soup, shown in studies to shorten colds. Another treatment is ginger tea: Buy fresh ginger, grate a piece about the size of your thumb (you can use a cheese grater) and boil in 2 cups of water in a saucepan. When it has boiled down to 1 cup (10 or so minutes), strain and drink as is or add honey. There are other conconctions out there made from ginger tea using liquor or cayenne pepper or something, but I don't have the recipies. Finally, eat lots of onions and garlic--they both kill viruses and bacteria. Good luck and good health, AntJoan
Guest guest
A P.S. on my last post: The book on oil of oregano is called " The Cure is in the Cupboard, " by Dr. Ingram. AntJoan
