Guest guest
The TSH often rises that high in patients who are over-medicated with anti-thyroid drugs. Becoming hypothyroid so quickly can also cause symptoms of goiter, and this could make your nodules more noticeable.
Guest guest
I'm still unsure about the treatment for this hot nodule....will it ever completely go away, or is it just a matter of getting the thyroid to function normally? What exactly is the goal of the anti-thyroid treatment I was put on? Sorry to sound so confused! Marilyn
Guest guest
Yes, when I was on too much medication, my TSH went pretty darn high, though not as high as yours. I felt TERRIBLE! And I had a goiter, too. Arlene Re: TSH value jumped significantly The TSH often rises that high in patients who are over-medicated with anti-thyroid drugs. Guest guest
Arlene, did your goiter ever go away? Or is it just smaller now that your TSH is better? Guest guest
Hi Donna, It's gone (goiter). Came and went with cutting back on the PTU. But this was caused by the doctor not monitoring me closely enough, and I went through 3 months of hell because of it. You all warned me, but I didn't trust myself enough. I had never been hypo before, so I had no idea what was happening. And I FELT like I had swelling in my neck, but I would ask my husband and he couldn't see it. It REALLY hurt, not when I touched it, but felt like I had a sore throat inside, but high up. Don't know how to explain it, but I wish I could so I could help all of you try to avoid this. But I have begun to try to trust my instincts. For the last two weeks, I had been worried that something crazy was going on with my eyes, because they hurt behind the eyes, and hurt when I would turn them from side to side. Both my sister and my niece have experienced exothalmos Grave's eye disease, so I was worried about this. Went to the eye doctor's right away. I am fine, but have those dry eyes, and now use Refresh, and am fine. But I would rather check and push the doctors than be sorry for months. Arlene (becoming a crone in my old age ;~) or wise woman, or maybe others would call me something else!) Guest guest
Well, that suggests to me that I've been hypo more often than I've been hyper over the years. This goiter has been here for 18yrs or more, 16 of those remaining the same. In the last two it's shrunk. LOL! Arlene, you're just becoming a mature, informed woman! I can't believe I made it this far in my life being so uninformed. I've learned more in the last two years about Thyroidism, health and nutrition than I think I've learned in my entire lifetime. All because my mom died of Cancer and I had migraines. My family's problems prompted me as I'm sure yours did you. You're not a crone any more than any of us! Guest guest
Donna - you can have a goiter from being hyper too, I am pretty sure. I just didn't have a large one before I was hypo (that I know of though my thyroid was somewhat enlarged), but my sister who had Graves' years ago had a very large one, and she had terrible Graves'. Mine was only double the size of my thyroid when I went hypo, but it hurt like Hades. And I feel like a crone because I have had to get so all-fired assertive about this medical stuff. Assertive is not the word! Post-menopausal is a nice way to put it...actually, my fairly new endocrinologist listens pretty well (though he doesn't give any credence to what he calls "controversial" treatments, like bugleweed. And the naturopath is great for listening. Well, let's keep laughing! Guest guest
How's your goiter now, ? Mine used to be about the size of a walnut in the shell. Stayed the same for years (except after an FNA where they drained fluid from it). It's way smaller now, but when it was big, I did have discomfort with it. Felt like the thing was wrapping itself around my esophagus.
