Hi All,

Here's the newbie's rambling introduction!

I was diagnosed hyper last summer. Been taking Tapazole and Atenalol

since. Last Friday I developed a headache that I still have a week

later. And I haven't been able to really catch my breath either.

Tuesday I went to see my GP becasue of this and because I was just

feeling weird. My blood pressure was up to 150/80, normal is 100/60 or

so. She also pointed out that my neck was HUGE! She said I was

probably " storming " and sent me off to the ER.

It's about an hours drive into town and I was expecting several hours

wait to be seen. Seems that " stormin' " gets ya right in! Walked in,

sat down, opened up my book, read a half page, heard my name,

sauntered past all those nonimportant bleeding patients, had my BP

checked (150/105), and boom, I was in a bed!

They hooked me up to all those little monitors that beep and whistle.

My heart rate was 130, BP stayed high, my 02 sat was 89 and I couldn't

breath. It took 5 hours to get the labs back. My T3 was 475 and my

TSH was undetectable. I was in a teaching hospital so I kept having

large groups of visitors stopping by to stare, poke, prod and point at

my really big thyroid and my really big eyes!

They hung some fluids and kept me overnight. They gave me 200mg PTU

twice and then sent me home the next afternoon. Happy 4th of July!

Shortly after the PTU kicked in I felt really flu-y (fluey, fluee,

fluie?) Aches, pains, naseau, etc.

My head still hurts, I still can't breath, I " m burning up even with

the cooler running full blast all the time, and I'm really, really

bitchy! My kids are trying to send me back to the hospital just so I

won't be around to yell at them! :)

They doubled my daily Tapazole and set a follow up for August. I'm

taking the Atenalol and shaking like crazy. The PTU should be out of

my system but now I have these sharp shooting pains in my knees. And

the two times I've talked to the endo since I got home he just says,

" Keep taking your medicine. "

I'm freaking out! They kept asking if I had chest pains, so now I

have chest pains. They kept poking at my legs, so now my legs hurt.

They were amazed that I was going to work everyday, so I haven't gone

back since!

Help, Oh Wise Ones! Is any of this normal? Do I need to just chill

out and relax and stop worrying about it? Should I just keep

freaking?

Any advice would be appreciated! :)

Gayla
