Guest guest
Hi Jules, There are a few antibodies associated with thyroid eye disease but, to my knowledge, there isn't one specific antibody that shows up in all patients. The test for stimulating TSH receptor antibodies is generally positive in people with Graves' ophthalmopathy and is useful in monitoring one's prognosis. In the past, antibodies for CSI, collage stimulating immunoglobulins have been used but only a small number of patients with thyroid eye disease test positive for these antibodies. When this test came out, it looked promising but never materialized. There are also antibodies to 64 kd proteins that are sometimes seen in people with GO but again they're not universally seen. I'll have to look at the about.com site to see if there is something new out there I haven't heard about, but I suspect the article is referring to one of these other protein markers. Guest guest
hi elaine, thank you for your clarification - the reference to the eye muscle antibodies was on one of the forums from a subscriber, so i assume it was a layman like myself, and she wasn't using the term accurately. we are in countdown mode here, my 9 year old has just gone to bed, hoping she will be able to sleep - but i think it may be a little while yet! it's really great to have one last one young enough to be so excited ! wishing all of you a peaceful xmas and a healthy and contented 2002... jules Re: Elaine - question re eye antibodies Hi Jules, There are a few antibodies associated with thyroid eye disease but, to my knowledge, there isn't one specific antibody that shows up in all patients.
