Guest guest
Thanks, Pam. You beat me to it! Donna Re: Wellbutrin ..Elaine (and others that know about it( My goodness Kim, You were very lucky nothing happened. That is VERY serious medicine. The main problem with it is it can cause seizures and heart problems. I was in a two year study with that drug, and the pre screening physical was quite extensive, including an EKG. Along with pages of possible risk factors we might each have had and pages of family history. If you want to take this drug, you need a special doctors appointment , complete with a full physical before ever starting back on it. You got my attention real quick with this one. LOL If you are not feeling well and having trouble with weight, you have to have all your thyroid lab work done ASAP. Do NOT settle for "your labs are normal". You must get copies of the results and see for yourself exactly what they are calling normal. We all have a different set point where we feel best. -Pam L - ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here
Guest guest
My regular doctor is a friend of mine. I told her about Yancey losing weight when he took Wellbutrin to quit smoking and he also had lots of energy. I have gone from 110 to 150 with this Grave's disease. I asked for a script of it to lose weight. She gave it to me and I lost 6 pounds boom..plus had energy. Then I got on the internet researching about it and read some negative stuff so I stopped taking it. When I went to today she said that she had not had anyone have negative side effects that the people on the net probably were on some heavy duty stuff before Wellbutrin and she would take it if she were me.. I am miserable with the weight gain ..when I go to set down my knees hurt and when I stand up they hurt..she said probably cause I'm small framed and gained weight.. Elaine do you know if it can cause bad side effects? OR does anyone else have any experience with it? thanks Kim
Guest guest
Hi, Most people do fine on it, but as with any medication, there's always a chance of side effects. As long as you're on a low dose and aren't noticing any bad effects, you shouldn't worry. Take care, Elaine

Guest guest
Kim, You know what I now realize I forgot in my warning. Just because you did not have a seizure while you took this drug before, does NOT mean it could not happen in the future. While we were on the drug we also had labs done every month, and several physicals also. They kept a very close eye on us. Please don't think I am yelling at you. I am only concerned you were not aware of the possible problems. And I know when I was younger I did not take things like this seriously enough. ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here
Guest guest
Pam, OhMyGod, now I'm scared to death, and I've never even taken the drug (I almost took it once, though, as an antidepressant)! From what I know, you can get seizures on the drug only if you are prone to them--I don't think it's a general danger. If you read the side effects to any drug, you woudn't take them, even aspirin. That said, I generally stay away from all meds if possible, because I've had some really bad side effects to stuff other people have tolerated well (although the ATDs and beta blockers I took when I had Graves were very effective, with no side effects at all for me--I was lucky there!). I have several clients on Wellbutrin (I don't prescribe it, the psychiatrist does), and so far they are doing OK. Some use it as an antidepressant, and some to quit smoking. Pam, are you saying this drug is more dangerous than the other antidepressants out there--they all carry a long list of possible side effects--and that you think no one should take it? Maybe I should read the study and advise my clients to find another drug. What do you think? Thanks, AntJoan
Guest guest
Dear Pam, Thanks for your reply. I'll make sure my clients are monitoring their BP, as well as the liver panels I think my clinic requires. I'd heard of dangers of seizures, but did not know about the other side effects. I swear, even though people take these drugs to fight depression, you can get anxious and depressed just comtemplating the side effects! Thanks again, AntJoan
Guest guest
I've been on Wellbutrin (150mg once a day) since early this year. I had been on Prozac but did not like feeling like a zombie...and gaining more and more weight while keeping a diet dairy and eating as my Dr had instructed. My Dr switched me to Wellbutrin as a milder anti-depressant and hopefully the agreeable side effect of weight loss. I have not lost weight but at least the uncontrolled gaining has stopped!! And I feel better than I have felt in 6 years since I started this battle with Graves. I'm now able to get out of my recliner and walk a mile once or twice a day. I have hope of losing some weight eventually! Guest guest
Kim ...darn You ! Your original post did NOT say that '' was a doctor. So you left me assuming you were getting this drug from a friend, which would have left you in great danger on many levels. Ant Joan, You now see how this changes everything. Glaco Wellcone ( very bad spelling ) the drug co. that makes this drug focused on two dangers. Possibility of seizures and heart attack. For seizues, they took family history extensivly. All parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins...and their medical hisroty. The medical history of each of us was also gone over with a fine tooth comb. Since Wellbutrin raises blood pressure, we had an EKG before starting the drug, and again after it had had time to kick in. Our BP was closly monitored and several people had thier wellbutrin discontinued because their BP went up too much. They also ran liver panels on us. Every 4 weeks the first 3 months, if I rememebr right, and then at 3 month intervals. So you can see why, since Kim inplied she was getting this from a friend, Kim, I am soory to have scared you. I assume your doctor is watching your BP and liver? I never see you dicscuss your lab reports for yoour thyroid labs, and I do hope you DO get copies of each test result. Are you sure your thyroid is in the right place ? We all have a different set point and just anywhere inside of the huge normal range is not necessarly right for us. When my FT4 is still in the normal range but LOW I am very hypo , and I do not feel well and I gain weight. PLUS my blood pressure goes UP. So you can seee, for me...if I did not know this, and took Wellbutrine, I would be in danger of a heart attack. And I know I am not unique in this. ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here
