These are the autoantibodies causing all the trouble in GD and they're present in our blood. >> Would a tanning bed make my symptoms worse? I read on s site that sun helps. Guest guest
Hi Kim, If your tanning bed isn't making your symptoms worse, then I suppose you're ok. UV light is known to trigger certain autoimmune diseases, particularly lupus, but I haven't seen anything about UV light triggering GD specifically. I haven't researched them much since I never use them. What do you think about their overall effects on your health?

Guest guest
I haven't heard of problems provided you are using the recommended goggles and not overdoing it, but why don't you call and ask the nurse at your ophthalmologist's office? Guest guest
Hi Ant Joan, I'll dig through my stuff. I'm researching SLE for a new project and I was writing up the triggers of SLE today, mercury being one of the biggest environmental factors for causing it. Looking through Disese Prevention & Treatment Protocols, the Life Extension's guide, I see they mention the oxidative damage in autoimmune disease...they conducted a study measuring old Blood Bank samples for vitamin E, beta-carotene and vitamin A. All 3 of these nutrients were far lower in patients who later developed RA and SLE. This book also mentions the benefits of fish oil. I've also read several reports of DHEA offering good benefits in people with SLE. It's even mentioned in Environmental Health Perspective Supplements, Vol. 107, sup 5, Oct, 1999. You can check out the life extension site www.lef.org I'll let you know if I run across anything else. seems like there was something on the autoimmune disease ring on the web.
