Guest guest
There is a hypo T list at the following address: LISTSERV@... THYROID@... It deals with hyper and hypo and everything in between. I had RAI when my daughter was 18 mos, pushed by my endo at the time of course. I have a lot of regrets. Weight gain, etc. If I could do it over again, it would be my last resort. I was very uninformed. What is connection between eye problems and RAI? I've never heard of it. Guest guest
This is my way of thinking, and I could be wrong, but it does make sense if you think about it......Grave's disease is an auto-immune disorder, which causes our own immune systems to attack our thyroid, thus, the thyroid works harder, thus the hyperthyroidism. Ok, so, if we kill off our thyroid because it is over active (which is a symptom, not a cause), we still have the auto-immune disorder that caused the whole problem. In my way of thinking, if the main effect (our thyroid) is killed, the Grave's will attack the eyes more so then it did before RAI. Plus, I am sure the radiation in our systems doesn't help, either! Guest guest
i just read about the RAI and TED-60% more likely to get worse if RAI is done. Those who didn't have TED before RAI are more likely to get it. Something about 'predisone' before the treatment for a time period will lessen the chances. I only know what I read. Guest guest
Well add me to the list of victims. My eyes are puffy and teary. I don't know if I would have done things differently... I must remain hopeful. THanks for your help. Guest guest
Dear Jules, In my Tabers medical dictionary. Anti-microbes are in our body to kill bacteria. If you have too many, they are not only killing bacteria but portions of our body that may have the " little buggers " in them or that the body thinks they are in there. Did you ever read my posts when I first came on line about a Dr. McPherson who theorizes that the real problem in an autoimmune problem like ours is that our body has had an infection and developed secondary tiny little organisms called micoplasmas which invade different organs. The organs it invades is the place our body begins destroying. For us, that would be the thyroid. I read on another email list that a young boy with an autoimmune problem was even tested for the micoplasmas and had a positive test. So there's a way to know if you can get a Dr. to check it out. I believe yeast or viruses can do the same thing, but since your antimicrobial antibodies are sky high, that would mean you'd be a strong candidate for reading and applying the book " The Road Back Home " . I understand even people with who were bed ridden with autoimmune problems remained in lifetime remissions with a small long term dose of tetracyline. I suspect that the herbs dandelion/burdock would do the same thing over a period of time. There is also a combination of herbs that is supposed to reduce an " over producing " auto-immune system, but I " m not sure it will actually be " healing " or if it will just relieve the symptoms of lowering the lab value. It has astralagus and another common herb I can't think of right now. If you are interested I can give you the info. I wonder if the combination of those herbs and the dandelion burdock are the best shot to lower antibodies? You have the advantage of doing lab tests regularly and see if any of these theories work, since you have a Dr. checking these. Please keep us informed if you find something that works, Thanks for sharing, Le Ann
Guest guest
Dear Deb, Does carpal tunnel have any relation to Graves? I've started to get the numbness in my right hand when I type on computer for past few weeks and now am noticing it when I am driving. Since this is a nerve problem I wonder if St. 's Wort would help. It heals nerve endings. Marshmallow removes scar tissue that forms. I wonder if the combo would help the problem. I see an Osteopath in April and get his opinion. Le Ann
Guest guest
Le Ann, Let me know what the Osteopath says. The Chinese ball thing sounds worth a try. Good luck. Deb
