Hello. I am new to this list and I would like some information. I am 30

years old and I have Grave's Disease. It only affects my thyroid, not my

eyes. I am taking Tapazole. I have also had a total hysterectomy two years

ago.

My problem now is I am constantly sick and missing work. I am catching

everything that seems to be in the air....stomach virus, sinus infections,

laryngitis...and the list goes on!

Does anyone else suffer from low immune system and if so, what are the

answers? Thanks in advance for the help!

Kellie

Dear Kelli,

I was in the same situation with Graves and I was getting sick and looked bad

too. I was a realtor running a new homes subdivision and lost my job not

because of my work performance, but because I looked so ill and I felt it

necessary to explain why to my customers as such...If I had it to do all over

again, I would have just quit and stayed home and then I would have gotten

the rest I needed to get well. I also had a hysterectomy before all of this

hit so I would suggest to you that you get your hormone levels checked,

FSH-LH-Estrogen levels checked; you should be at least an 80 with the

estrogen level. Estrodail is a natural hormone without dye in it that I take

up to 2mg. a day. This slows down the thyroid and helps with the Graves

hyper problems; do not do RAI, you will go Hypo in 5 to 20 years if you have

the anti-thyroid antibodys in your blood stream, they can make the thyroid go

either way... I think that is a TSA blood test to test for them. Estrodial

is made up at an old time Pharm. or you can send an RX to the Women's

Internationl Parm., check 800 information for their phone number/fax number

to send your doctors RX. Get the book out " Screaming to be Heard, Hormonal

Connections Women know about and Doctors ignore. " Dr. ViLiet (spelling of?)

this book talks about hormones and the thyroid functioning along with

depression, allergys, etc. at least everything I have and more; they are in

fact, all connected as such.

I am now on 12.5mcg of thyroid hormone a day even though after Tapazole my

levels are normal ranges and the Estradial at 2 mg. a day. I was having the

dry, big eyes and hives until I started on the low dose of thyroid hormone

and suffering until I changed Endo's this is number 4! I was on Tapazole for

7 months and gained weight so be careful with that, it happens!

105lbs.-130lbs., now I am 120 and just right. Look better now and feel

better except for the depression and the anxiety attacks! Illness can change

your brain chemicals once it is controlled so I am seeing mental health on

Monday, but if this happens to you, remember, Paxil makes thyroid hormone

work better, I found that out one night when I felt like I had Graves all

over again... it has been a rough two years going for me so if I have helped

you at all that is great because I have been there and done that. Take care,

Sheri Lynn

Dear kellie:

I have had hyper thyroidism for over three years now and I have had the very

same experiences as you. When I first got diagnosed with this, there is no

way that I would have been about to continue in an outside job, luckily for

me I was a stay at home mom and could adjust my schedule to my health needs.

But it did seem that I caught everything that was in the air, so not only

was I sick with hyper, but also everything else you can imagine. I have had

two cysts removed from my tongue of all places! I definitely feel that hyper

weakens your immune system. However, recently I have been taking the

supplements that recommends and I have been changing my diet to a more

natural and healthy diet. I have been exercising regularly,(even when I

don't feel like it) and I have been noticing a lot of improvement in so far

as how often I get sick. I have been off tapazole for approx. three months

and have been feeling really quite well. However, my blood levels are still

high on the hyper end and after this next blood test if they are still high

my doctor wants me to go back on the med.. So I will. But in general,

reading about this disease and researching ways to live and eat healthy, the

vitamins, exercise, etc., all of these things will help to strengthen your

body again! Hope this helps,

Hello Kellie,

Have you read Dr. Lee's book " What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About

Premenapause " ? It might give you some insight on your HRT which I think could

be a major factor in your immune problems.

Good Luck Ann

Kellie,

I too have a very weak immune system and catch everything!! I found a wonderful

holistic doctor that treats the whole body. Several things contribute to a

weak immune system. Your thyroid/adrenal glands need to be working properly

with the right meds if needed. You need a heavy metal test to see if you are

toxic with any heavy metals. They need to be removed if any. The proper

vitamins, Exercise, reduce stress, good nights sleep and eating good foods are

all helpful. you need a good holistic doctor to get you healthy and guide

you. I am full of Cadmium and Lead and am removing them with DMSA. A pill

that binds to them and is removed through the urine. I truly believe being

clogged up with these metals hurts your body. It takes 3-6 months to remove it

all.

Hope this helps. A good site to check out is Dr. Stoll.

Dear , I'm twice your age. I developed Graves around the same age as

you. Have had two goiters. One was removed and one was radiated. Still have

a residual case of Graves and now I have Hypo. Most of these " Doctors "

haven't got a clue. You are going to have to do a lot of learning on your

own. I also had a Histo. at your age. Most of this stuff wasn't necessary.

Try taking B-complex 400, C 400, and E. Add one at a time. Take them about

an hour after your other meds. Hope this helps it does help me. Ginny

>Hi Sheri Lynn:

I am very curious to know more about the Estrodail. Did you have to go to

your regular doctor in order to get " permission " a requisition to have your

hormone levels checked? You mention to get the Estrodial from Women's

International Parm., sorry for my ignorance but what is the doctors RX?

Is this a perscription for Estradial? I know my hormones are all messed up

but I can't get to first base with a doctor unless I say. " I will take

hormone replacement therapy " Right now I have gone off 's supplement

program since September 29 because I am on a body cleansing program with my

reflexologist. That will take one month. Still I am taking Tapazole morning

and night, I dropped the afternoon one myself to see if I can ween myself

right off. My eyes are still bothering me. The thyroid hormone that you are

taking is for HypoT right? You are not hyperT anymore nor are you hypoT and

the thyroid hormone is helping with your eyes? Paxil?

What is Paxil? I have not had a hysterectomy. Right now I am reading a

book called. " The Thyroid Solution " by " Ridha Arem, M.D. " I will also

get " Screaming to be heard, Hormonal Connections Women know about and

Doctors ignore " I have been pretty much maintaining my normal weight

which is between 105-109 pounds. I will watch it carefully. When I finish

the body cleansing I will go back on the supplements, also I am sure the

reflexologist will want to put me on one of his supplements that he is

selling. I'll make this decision when I come to it.

Yes, just go to a good internal med doctor and ask for a hormonal study and

if your estrogen is low, as for a perscription for Estradial and call 800

information to give the doctor the Women's International Pharmacy's phone

number and he should be able to handle faxing over the RX for you to get the

medicine, which is dye free, at a regular drug store it would be called

Estrace and it is purple.

Paxil is an anti-depressant medication to boost the serotonin in your brain

if you are sad; I hated the stuff and I am finding selinium is doing quite

well with this problem for me just at 100mcg. a day so far ( this is a

mineral that is on 's list).

My range for my Thyroid is normal right now but I have antibodys in my blood

stream that can destroy my thyroid within 5-20 years and I take just 12.5mcg.

of hormone to help support the thyroid and my hives have stopped since this

treatment was started; suggested by Emory U. Hospital here in Atlanta, GA,

research that has been conducted on this type of thyroid problem making me

depressed etc.

Just keep reading like you are doing because you can never be too educated

when it comes to this disease, it is really confusing! I would watch certain

herbs that can speed up the thyroid like has mentioned, they about

killed me at one time...I stick to vitimins and minerals with lots of water.

Take Care,

Sheri Lynn

How does one test for " antibodies in the bloodstream that can destroy the

thyroid " even if the thyroid tests are normal? Or am I misunderstanding

what you wrote?

No, that is correct, I think it is called a TSA test--Anti-Thyroid Antibodies

and the test comes back in 3 parts and all my numbers were above the normal

range indicating their presents. They attack the thyroid and I was told it

takes between 5-20 years to do so and that is when the thyroid ranges will

indicated Hypo. I am on a low dose of thyroid hormone, 1mcg. per pound of

body weight per day according to Emory U. Hospital where I went to see an

allergist for hives that would not clear up and he faxed a note to the endo

doctor to do this test and also an ACTH test and he suggested the above

treatment. My hives are now gone, amen.

This is considered Hishemotto's Disease ( I never spell this word right!) So

now that I am out of Graves Disease (stress) I am now considered more Hypo

even with normal Thyroid ranges. Look up The Leland Clinic on the web, they

have a page explaining all this. This is my doctor here in Atlanta, GA. Dr.

K. Lucus and she is listed as one of the best doctors on theminingco.com

thyroid site under health. She is number 4 for me! I also had bad panic

attacks and the thyroid hormone is helping them to stopped now too. ER room

12 times over the last year with hives, itchy throat, panic, high BP it has

been so much fun that now I am traumatized and Kaiser is paying for

counseling as of yesterday to help me get my life back together. Sheri Lynn
