Guest guest
I took PTU from December 95 to December 98. I also added the herb silymarin (milk thistle). The endo had no problem with me adding silymarin. I have had no liver problems from PTU. My endo worked with the doctor that invented PTU, and said there were no long term problems and in the old days some people took PTU for as long as 20 years (why was my question). I'm sure that there are many things that you can do to mimimize any potential harm from PTU. You are right to ask these questions. Guest guest
Hi , I am 41 and was diagnosed in 1982. It comes and goes. I only take the medication when I am really bad. Dont know which is better - not taking the tablets or having the side effects. I tried not to get stressed I think that makes the situation worse. regards HYPERTHYROIDISM AND PTU IS THERE ANYONE WHO HAS HYPER-T AND TAKES PTU FOR EIGHT YEARS OR MORE? I AM A FEMALE 31 YEARS OLD AND WAS DIAGNOSED 9 YEARS AGO WITH HYPER-T AND A GOITER. I TAKE 50MG PTU A DAY, IT GOES UP AND DOWN LIKE A ROLLERCOASTER SOMETIMES. I CAN UP TO THREE OR FOUR TIMES THAT AMOUNT A DAY WHEN IT ACTS UP. I AM FINALLY GOING FOR A SECOND OPINION ON NOV. 23. I DON'T NOW IF ANY OTHER TREATMENT WILL HELP. I STARTING TO GET TIRED OF HOW I AM FEELING LATELY. WHY HAVEN'T I GONE FOR A SECOND OPINION, MY ENDO JUSTS WANTS TO TREAT ME WITH MEDICATION. I AM STARTING TO WORRY ABOUT LONG TIME EFFECTS FROM PTU. THERE MUST BE SOMEONE OUT THERE WITH SAME THYROID WOES. Guest guest
I've only been on PTU for 1 year. Started at 75mg/day now at 12.5mg/day. The Endo checks my liver with every blood test. Wondered if anyone had a comment regarding PTU -> liver related -> cholesterol. I'm a runner and have always had normal Chol. (156) the two years before Graves (119 before that) . Now I'm 210-225 and wonder if it is because I'm on PUT which affects the liver which affects chol. Any comments?
