Guest guest
Dear , I have had cherry angiomas for years, long before I was diagnosed w/hyperT. No dr. has ever made the connection. Do you know how the two disorders are related? Are the red spots cause for concern? Do they indicate that anything is wrong even though my thyroid is now normal? Do you know how you can get rid of them? Thanks in advance for any info you might have. Guest guest
Hello , <<I learned something about petachiae spots on my arms, near my eyes and on my legs. Actually, they are red spots like bleeding under the skin. Some people call them cherry angiomas. These spots are a result of platelets being destroyed in the blood stream. This is a condition called thrombocytopenic purpura which is related to thyroid disorders.>> It is interesting that you mentioned red spots on your body. I have them on one of my legs and also a few on my face. Mostly on the forehead area. I really thought they were just moles starting a new one that started out with the red color and as for the one on my leg.... everytime I have shaved my legs.... that red spot would always bleed but it hasn't happened for a few months cuz I was careful not to shave that hard there. I never knew they had a name for it. Thanks for mentioning that. Guest guest
Dear AntJoan: Glad to hear that there are a couple of you that have the same spots. Was wondering if I was the only one with red spots LOL. My thyroid count is normal as far as the numbers are concerned, but I have a large goiter on the right side of my neck which extends down into my chest wall and cuts off breathing at night, standing up during the day and eating foods like bagels, meat and dry types. Carrots can create havoc on the swallowing as well. I don't put any stock in the tests for thyroid because apparently the left side is running normal and the right side is nonfunctional. So, the numbers will bear out as normal because a part of the gland is still working. This thyroid book I talked about affirms that as well. Doctors, on the other hand won't tell you anything. Gotta find it yourself. By the way, my TSH runs between 1.0 to 1.6, but mostly 1.1 or so. There is a new scale for TSH that runs between 2.0 to 10. I think that scale is so much more realistic as so many people have hyper symptoms in the 1 range. Have to search around. AntJoan, in relationship to your question whether or not these cherry angiomas can hurt you. The Thyroid Book p. 102 that if you have these little dots on your body, you should have a platelet count run to make sure that you are not having bleeding problems. You also want to have a bleeding time test to see how your blood is clotting. I recently has a platelet count as I am preparing for surgery soon to remove my goiter. My platelets are at 125,000. Some normals are 150,000 to 450,000. Others are 130,000 to 450,000. One scale gives me 25,000 loss and another gives me a 5,000 loss. My Internal Medicine doctor says that there is nothing to worry about until you hit about 10,000. Even so, the spots make me think there is some bleeding going on for just the readings it is at. I guess I am ok for surgery. I did take aspirin daily for six months after I had an angel wing closure of a hole in my heart in 97 of July. That may have done something to the platelet count. In any event, be sure to get your platelet count checked. Rarely, it can be serious requiring steroids to correct the problem or there may be a natural method to help. may want to touch on this subject. New interest here. When was the last time you had your platelet count checked? Do so. It may be fine, but why take a chance? All of these issues surround the thyroid. I am not sure exactly how in your case, but some doctors wonder if my goiter is bleeding. I have been biopsied deeply 11 times and have suffered greatly with the after effects. I sure this helped you. Sincerely, ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
Dear , Thank you very much for the info. I've had my platelet count done several times, and it was normal. I don't like the way the red spots look, though. I wonder if they can be removed. Guest guest
Hi! I've also got those cherry angiomas. I've had them since I was young. I did notice however, that in the past year I've gotten more of them. Think there's any connection to this and my hyperT raging? Just wondering. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Dear Joan: I feel the same way. I don't like the red spots either. If you learn anything about ways to decrease them or rid them or visa versa, let's notify one another. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
: Yes, there is a correlation between these cherry angiomas and thyroid disorder as outlined in the book " Your Thyroid A Home Reference: by Wood, and Ridgway. I was relieved to hear that it was not another problem, but as AntJoan said they are not cosmetically something to brag about. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
