Guest guest
Sounds like you have subacute thyroiditis. My symptoms were similar to yours before I had my right thyroid lobe removed. Since the surgery, things have quieted down. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
, What other kind of symptoms did you have besides the hot/cold flashes? I'm curious. Kozy ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Kozy; I shivered when I drank liquids or ate certain foods and with cold climate no matter how heavy the clothing was, stomach was upset with eating certain foods, joint pain, purple feet upon standing due to large goiter, increased heart rates and easy startle responses, breathing was constricted due to large goiter, could not stand the heat even at 70 degrees, sweat under my arms alot, and I felt the urge to urinate frequently especially when it was hot and the feeling of defacation was strong even wheh I did not have to go, not constantly though. Most of the time I had temp at 99 degrees, broke out in the sweats at night. Most of these symptoms are not present since having my 1/2 of the thyroid removed. Few remain on a lighter basis. Oh, and I still have problems with my eyes. I stare alot with alot of pressure behind my eyeballs. If that continues, I will see an eye specialist. However, I am going to give it some time since I had the surgery only two and half weeks ago. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Kozy , I hate to ask, but are you anywhere near menopause? I also had a lot of hot and cold flashes when I found out that i was Hypo-t. it could be from a number of things. Hope you feel better, Chris ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Kozy, please don't think that you have to be 50 to start menopause, I have a friend who started it at 35-- it took a while to finish, but she did start at that age. you can be in your 30's and still get the symptoms of menopause. Hopefully yours is from your thyroid problem. Chris ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
, I had about the same symptoms as you are having now. I too have upset stomach at times, had to frequent urination, and a little constipation. Most of the time I feel when I'm cold.... I get goose bumps when the room is only 75 then I put on my jacket or sweatshirt or blanket.... for a while then I would get very hot... my chest would flare up. Also, I am having problems in the chest area... I feel my muscles in my chest area are very sore and tight...constantly... but they never go away. I would also wake up in the morning feeling sweaty. It just crazy. This is the first winter... I ever go to bed with summer T-shirt pajamas... last year I used to wear a very warm pajamas. I know I am due for another TSH test... I'm supposed to have it done every 2 or 3 months. The last I saw my doctor was in January. I think its about time to go in and have it checked out and see what the problem is. Guest guest
Kozy: Keep an eye on your thyroid levels. However, mine were in the low normal range and the doctors said that my problem was not related to the thyroid because of the levels. The only way to tell was to remove the problem area. After surgery, many symptoms calmed down. I don't believe the tests are always a sure way to tell whether you are hyper or hypo thyroid. Your body and its changes are the best barometer. Take care and keep at it. :>) ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll see if I can find it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
About menopause - if your too young for this - get an estrogen blood test.... Your doctor may then put you on estrogen to get your levels back up. This can happen if your stressed, lose too much weight, etc. Don't wait. Get a blood test a/s/a/p. Good Luck, Elaine ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wish I had known about this long ago - now too late for base-line. >> Hi all I wish I had done so with estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. After I had my hysterectomy it was hard to know what levels to aim for since I didn't know what was normal for me. Every woman's body is different and what is normal for one may not be for another. The MD's practice of aiming for some magic number that they have decided is normal doesn't always work. I spent about a year and a half trying to find the balance of the three that felt right, adjusting and changing the proportions. Most women don't have the time or the energy to do that. I was lucky that I had a GYN that allowed me to do the experimentation till I found out what worked, most don't. They just tell you what you need, and in most cases without even testing the hormone levels. You can get saliva tests of 5 different hormones on your own without a doctors ok to find out. If anyone is interested I have done it and have the name of a lab. It runs in the neighborhood of $35-40 per hormone. The more you do at one time the more the price comes down. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kozy >> Hi Kozy I don't know the exact formulation of yours but most birth control pills are more progesterone than estrogen. They sort of mimic a pregnancy when your body has a tremendous amount of progesterone. It is also a synthetic which can have a lot of side effects that natural hormones do not have. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Kozy: You may be estrogen dominant and need some progesterone. I use a cream recommended by Dr. Lee that I put on my skin. The women still having periods also need this product occassionally. The health food stores carry his book and the creams. Only get the ones he recommends. The web site is http://www.aeron.com. You just contact them, tell them how many and which hormones you want to test and they send you a kit which you do at home and send back to them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Thanks for the info. Question....I've heard that Graves disease can " just burn itself out " in a year or so. But I read in this E group that many people are still having problems after many years. I was diagnosed a year ago this month and I am still hyperT. Guest guest
Ann, Its been almost five years now and its still holding on, its not as bad or intence as it use to be but its still a problem. I always hope that when the summer heat gets here its not as bad. The shower dos'nt seem to burn my face any more and I can stand next to the wood stove for longer periods of time but the real test is summer, can I stand the heat last year was still pretty hard on me. I work outside and usally from 9am to 9pm its always a reliefe when the sun starts setting so I will wait and see. Raven ABerry3837@... wrote: Thanks for the info. Take care, I think we are supposed to go Hypo when we are old. > Re: I'm going crazy!!! > > > Thanks for the info. > > Question....I've heard that Graves disease can " just burn itself out " in a > year or so. > > But I read in this E group that many people are still having > problems after > many years. > > I was diagnosed a year ago this month and I am still hyperT. > > Ann > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > eGroups Spotlight: > " Aok-china " - Adopting older kids from China. > http://offers./click/243/4 > >
