Guest guest
Sheri Lynn, I'm pretty sure that I had an encounter with your same doctor Beasley. Nearly ten years ago I was referred to him for a second opinion in my disability case. As a result of his rude unprofessional manner I wrote a letter to the Medical Examiners Board. I didn't really expect to get anything out of it, but the pure satisfaction that if enough people said something maybe they'd question his approach as a " care taker " . As a result of my illness I also lost my job sales job with a large Atlanta computer firm. I'm writing you from Germany where I am living my dream of returning to Europe with a partner. I would have never met my husband or moved here if it wasn't for people like Dr. Beasley and the loss of my job. I'm sorry for your dreadful experience, but I'm living testimony that every cloud has a silver lining. I hope you find yours! Guest guest
Joan, did he say in what respect going off of the Tapazole is difficult? When I went off Fosamax for my bones I also went off of the Tapazole without tapering off slowly and became very sick...now on Paxil from the seretonin drop in the brain. Guest guest
Dear Bonnie, Yes, I got better soon after being diagnosed with Graves. I think that Graves is an imbalance, as says. I started to taper off the Tapezol a few months after I started it, and I seemed to be OK, so I kept tapering until I was off it. You can do the same thing--cut your dose, or take it every other day, then every third day, etc. I think that the worst that can happen is that your thyroid hormones elevate again, in which case you can just go back to your maintenance dose. Meanwhile, you can try the supplements and dietary measures discussed here and see if you can take back control of your thyroid. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Hope all goes well. Joan ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Dear Sheri Lynn, It seems that your question is addressed to me, but I am not sure what you are asking. I tapered off Tapezol very gradually--it took months, and my original dose was very low. What kind of idiot doctor took you off of it all at once? Guest guest
Lee, Well, I guess I should be glad that my endocrinologist never advised a sudden dropoff for me (probably why I like him and he has a good reputation in the Seattle area). When I first started with him over a year ago, he had me on a larger dosage and, following results of monthly blood tests, gradually lowered dosage until the 2.5 mg/twice a day. When my next blood test showed normal, he took me off the Tapazole all together, but, alas, a month later I could feel the hyper systems recurring so he put me back on the 2.5/twice a day where I have remained for about the past year. He's quite willing to let me stop again but I'm not ready for that yet. There have been a few times when I've forgotten to take one of the daily dosages, with no adverse effects. I wonder if the Tapazole affects the blood pressure though, as I also seem to need to take Altenolol to keep it down somewhat. I take 25 mg twice a day and it sure does seem to work (even Dr. Weil says that these beta blockers have been around for a long time and so have been tried and tested over time). So, even though I don't like taking drugs I find myself taking them and trying not to resist too much. Of course, I'm now taking 's vitamins and minerals and, although he never talks much about the psychological/spiritual causes for Graves or any other disease, I also think a lot about some of these " intangible " reasons for the illnesses that we have. I'll end with the note that it sure has been a learning experience!! Thanks for listening. Guest guest
Hello Bonnie from Seattle! Well, well. Where 'bouts??? Raised in coastal Texas, migrated to Seattle before I was 14, so I'm an " old Seattlite " here. Lived most of my life in that area -- well except for a couple of times we tried to transplant to Calif. and then 10 years in Spokane area, 5 years in Leavenworth - in Central WA. Retired and moved here to N. Idaho last Sept. Still have a number of my family in the Seattle area. Love to hear from you. Guest guest
Dear Sheri Lynn, What a story! No wonder you are " shell shocked! " Quite a lesson there, about not trusting doctors, and always doing your own research. I'm glad you found this group, and are taking your health matters into your own hands. So many of us also have bosses who are idiots ( has the right idea by not holding a regular job), which is really stressful. I hope things are calming down for you, that the supplements help you regain your health, and that you find a job that you like. Guest guest
Dear Iona, aka Pilgrim: Well, I'm not from Seattle * actually born in Montreal, Quebec. I live in Woodinville which is about + hour from Seattle, but I'm a legal secretary in Seattle. I've lived in Woodinville (near Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue) for about 10 years and just love it here. Before moving out here I lived in Rockville, land, for about 25 years. So there you have it, a little personal history.
