Guest guest
Hi, I am 42 years old and I was on Tapazole for about 7 months, and yes, I did have a rash in the beginning and so I went to another doctor for allergies and I got an RX for Allergo, an antihistimine and I over came the rash and now my TSH is at 3.57 being off of the Tapazole for 3.5 weeks so far. I did experience a bit of a withdrawal for most of that time which the doctors of course say does not happen, bulls---! I have a bit of Graves eye disease and I know RAI can make that worse. I am taking mainly 2mg. of copper a day and of course, calcium since I already have osteoprosis from all this. So that is how I got around the rash, and yes, I think the Tapazole did help me to this point. I did gain weight though, 105lbs. to 132lbs. now it is off to the gym after work. Hang in there, this past year with this new disease I worked full time in real estate at a new homes subdivision, remodeled our new house ( moved too!) and now I am going to beat this disease. Hugs, Sheri Lynn ______________________________________________________________________

Guest guest
gayle, i had a rash before starting tapazole, after being on tapazole for about 1 week, the itchyness and rash disappeared.was also experiencing hair loss, since tapazole my hair grew back, curly and thick like it use to be. takes awhile for tapazole to kick in....give it time. sandy ______________________________________________________________________
Guest guest
Notta, I checked out just fine and lucky for that due to irradiation of my thymus gland as an infant, big mistake. I have been sick all my life, so this is just another hurddle to jumped over and hope for a break to sail into 50 years old in another 7 years. I am a copper believer, at 2mg. a day so far I think it is helping along with no more morning coffee. My heart can really raced up and hurt along with the breathless veil that scares the rest of the wind out of me, I hate that feeling! Take Care, Sheri Lynn ______________________________________________________________________
Guest guest
I was diagnosed about a month ago with Graves hyperthyroidism. Only symptoms I had were high pulse rate and weight loss. However I had been exercising and eating properly with the intention of loosing weight anyways. HyperT probably just made it easier. I am now at the weight that's normal for me and feel great. Anyways, Dr started me on Tapazole and 3 week later I broke out in an itching skin rash which dr said would take about a week to go away. He switched me to PTU. As of today I quit it too til the rash goes away. I don't know if PTU is causing the rash also - only been on it a week. > > I read 's letter in Natural Health and have been following this bb. Prior to my diagnosis I had been taking a supplement that had 15 mg zinc but no copper. Also was preceeded by a year and a half of studying almost everynight and weekend to get my nursing registration back. For a week now I have been taking supplements that include 5 mg copper and 15 mg zinc. My dr says that if the PTU doesn't work that we may have to consider RAI. After what I've read on the Internet in other bb's about what happens to people after RAI, I DON'T WANT IT! I have been perfectly healthy all my life and can't believe this is happening. > > Has anyone had rashes with Tapazole or PTU? If you had RAI, would you do it if you had to do it over again. Please help! (I am 44 years old if that helps anything.) > > I live in a small northern city in Alberta, Canada so there is little in the way of naturopaths, etc. We do have 2 natural food stores. > > Gayle in Alberta > > ----- > Free e-mail group hosting at http://www.eGroups.com/ > > ______________________________________________________________________ > >

Guest guest
Hi! I am a member of this group, but have not had time to write anything as I recently started graduate school. I have, however, been reading everything and wanting to write. Your letter has prompted me to respond, as your situation sounds so similar to what I went through a few years ago. I also was diagnosed w/Graves hyper-T, but did not want to take any medication. I researched alternative treatments, but had to see a regular (allopathic) physician while I was doing this because I was told that my symptoms (weight loss, rapid heartbeat, etc.) were just the tip of the iceberg, and that my condition could lead to muscle wasting, and worse. My physician said I could take RAI or some medicine. I rejected the RAI off the bat--it sounded so drastic and seemed irreversible. I told the dr. that I would not even consider it, and to go w/the more conservative treatment. So I started on a beta blocker to calm my heart, and then took a low dose of Tapezol. Meanwhile, I was seeing a complementary physician, who started me on acupuncture and supplements/herbs/nutrition therapy. He said that in China, 90 percent of thyroid cases are resolved this way. He also said that women's hormonal changes can precipitate an episode of thyroid dysfunction, and that estrogen lowers the thyroid, while progesterone raises the thryoid levels. As for diet, he said that broccoli and tofu lower thyroid levels. I stopped using the progesterone cream I had been using, went for about 4 acupuncture sessions and tried to eat the proscribed foods. Soon I had to decrease my antithyroid medication, as my thyroid levels were getting low! In about 6 mos. I had weaned myself off of all of the medicine; my thyroid levels have been normal for about a year. I know this doesn't answer your questions about the rash, but maybe it will give you some other ideas. Let me know how you are doing. Guest guest
Hi Gayle, I had RAI last December and am now on synthroid to supposedly to get my levels correct, it still is not right. The positives are that I no longer have the itchy skin which by the way I had on PTU and major night sweats, racing heartbeat and irratic speach and tremors! I think overall I am feeling better but having joined this group and having read s ideas and other positive responses to holistic methods I would say hold off on the RAI. I rushed into it because I am eager to have a baby and the doctors assured me that the RAI was the quickest, safest route!!! If I were you I would seek out a naturopath and try the holistic method first. Good luck and hang in there. Take care . ______________________________________________________________________
