Hi and everyone,

Sorry about the hypo question--I had written it but hadn't sent it out.

Your description of your symptoms, hypo but with a little increase in

heartbeat and some sleeplessness, raises a question that I've been pondering

for some time.

Other people have also written describing symptoms that seem both hypo and

hyper at the same time.

Is it possible that people can be both hypo and hyper at the same time? This

seems impossible at first thought, because the blood tests will show that

either the thyroid hormones are high or low, not both. On the other hand,

people appear to have both conditions at once.

If my theories that both diseases are mineral deficiency diseases then it may

be possible to be both hypo and hyper at the same time. If being deficient in

zinc contributes to hypothyroidism and being deficient in copper leads to

hyperthyroidism, what happens if you are deficient in both zinc and copper?

Possibly you will have symptoms of both diseases simultaneously. Your T3 and

T4 will define your thyroid condition, but what if being deficient in both

minerals causes symptoms which are associated with hypo or hyperthyroidism,

but are not caused by the thyroid disease? Maybe the duality of the symptoms

is a direct result of the mineral deficiencies (just like the thyroid

malfunctioning), and not a result of the thyroid problem. The symptoms always

appear with the thyroid disease but are not a result of the thyroid

disease--they are a result of the mineral deficiency which also causes the

thyroid disease. Interesting to think about. Anyone have any ideas about

this? Or experienced this duality of symptoms?

This is why I recommend that whether you are diagnosed hypo or hyper, you

should take both zinc and copper in an 8:1 ratio. This will lead to

normalization of your thyroid and eliminate all the conditions caused by

deficiencies of those two minerals.

We can speculate about what is going on, but if hypothyroidics like you also

take the same supplements (zinc, copper, kelp, trace elements, and cal/mag)

and all your symptoms disappear, then we will have some hard evidence. I hope

you take all those minerals and keep a diary and let us all know what happens.

Hope to hear back from you and from everyone else on this interesting topic.

Your friend,
