Guest guest
For Your Information: There are a few of you that are inquiring about the nature of a thyroid storm. I am happy to provide the information to you . It is taken from The Sixth Edition Professional Guide to Diseases An up-to-date encyclopedia of illnesses, disorders, and injuries and their treatments Springhouse publications 1998 P. 67 What happens in a thyroid storm? In thyroid storm, however, the thyroid overproduces T3 and T4, and systemic adrenergic activity increases ( adrenal glands are working harder). This causes epinepherine overproduction and severe hypermetabolism, leading rapidly to Gastro Intestinal, cardiovascular, and sympathetic nervous system decompensation. P. 829 Watch for signs of thyroid storm (tachycardia-fast heart rate), hyperkinesis-excessive motion, fever, vomiting and hypertension- high blood pressue. A thyroid storm is very dangerous and it is life threatening. It is particulary important to keep hydrated during this time. In other words, drink lots of water or pure juices. I have been through quite a bit with regards to my thyroid. It is a very sensitive organ and it plays a big role in regulating the body's metabolism and etc. Hope this has helped those who are questioning a thyroid storm.
