Guest guest
Dear Ruth and everyone, The supplement program that you outlined seems perfect to start out with. A week sounds great to see how things go. Perhaps if everything is fine then, the first thing you might want to increase is the kelp. Hypothyroidics should try to work that up gradually to at least 10 tablets a day, but go slowly because you could get your thyroid into action too fast and feel some discomfort. Everything else sounds great. I've been talking with some hyperT people about experiencing thyroid storms after taking multiple vitamins & minerals and will get into a group discussion about that next week. In the meantime, any hypies who have used multis please let me know whether you had good or bad experiences from them. It's an interesting subject that may have some ramifications for everyone. Thyroid storms......where should I start. I'm sure everyone who has gone through them could describe to you the horrors and I will tell you about mine. The worst ones I had occurred before I knew what was causing them, so I just assumed that it was a near-death experience. Basically my heart would start beating very fast, I'd get sweaty and trembling and I would just want to pace until it subsided. During the worst one I had, I went outside to pace because I didn't want to die indoors. And many people have them far worse. One woman told me that on two occasions she was startled by the phone ringing, which set off a storm and she had to call the paramedics. Other people aren't so lucky: their hearts beat so fast that they die. It's just hell. Drugs like PTU magically quell the storms and I found that massive doses of calcium and magnesium would control mine in about 20 minutes. I'm pretty sure t that that little 2 mg of copper in your supplement program, however, is your insurance to keep you from going hyper. When you get to the point that you don't need to take thyroid hormone, then you might consider upping that to 4 mg, but the 2 mg is perfect until then. Perhaps someone could tell me the exact statistics, but I think that around 10% of the American population has thryoid problems--maybe 25 million?? That is one huge epidemic!! Let us know how you feel in a week. ______________________________________________________________________
