Hyper & Hypo at the same time?

Hi Everyone!

(wick) just wrote me asking me if it's normal to feel cold after

drinking cold juice or if it is a symptom of hypothyroidism ( has

hyperthyroidism). I think that feeling cold air or water on your skin is

normal and feeling cold inside after a long exposure to cold air or cold water

is normal, but to feel cold all through in a normal environment (warmer than

65 degrees) may well be a symptom of hypothyroidism.

This brings about an interesting topic that I've been mulling over: Is it

possible to be both hypo and hyper at the same time. Although blood tests put

you into one basket or the other, I have seen alot of people describe having

symptoms of both diseases. Some people say they flip-flop between hypo and

hyper, but there are others who seem to have both diseases simultaneously.

I would really appreciate any input anyone else might have on this question.

Right now it seems like it's possible. If hypo and hyper T are mineral

deficiency diseases, then what happens if you are deficient enough minerals so

you have the preconditions for both diseases?

Let's look at zinc and copper. If a zinc deficiency can make you hypo and a

copper deficiency can make you hyper, what happens if you are deficient in

both? One possibility is rapid flip-flop--one high zinc/low copper meal could

flip you to hyper and then you could flop back to hypo with a high copper/low

zinc meal. The other possibility is that you have symptoms of both conditions

simultaneously.

Keep in mind that many symptoms which we associate with thyroid diseases may

not be caused by the disease itself, but may be a companion symptom which is

caused by the underlying mineral deficiency. That would explain why many

hyperthyroidics still are not feeling 100% even though they are taking a drug

which is controlling the amount of hormone circulating in their system. The

drug will do nothing to control the other symptoms of copper deficiency such

as losing your hair or having your hair turn grey.

But to get back to the main point, are any of you having symptoms of both

diseases at the same time? Let us all know.
