Guest guest
, Thank you so much for responding to the question that I sent to the Group about the best protocol for HBO (60 minute, 90 minute or 120 minute dives). I am asking for your opinion because the physician we are using is more interested in trying other methods besides HBOT to help with my sons Autism (like Methyl B-12 shots). This physician does not seem too knowlegable about HBOT. My son, Zack, was diagnosed by a school psychologist as severely autistic at age 6. Zack has done the special vitamins, gluten/casein free diet, speech therapy for 15 years. My son is now age 18 and still mildly mentally retarded. He is physically strong and healthy. He has " recovered " from many of his autistic symptoms. He still has occasional bowel issues and anxiety issues at times. His receptive and expressive language has improved but is still below normal. Zack is very verbal and can explain things to us. He is homeschooled so either his dad or myself is with him 24/7. The Hyperbaric Center we are using is new. They opened up about 4 months ago. The man running the chambers is knowledable about operating the chamber but he is not experienced in the latest protocols for the Autistic population. ZACK DID HIS FIRST ROUND OF 40 DIVES FROM 9/15/08-11/12/08 (a 59 day span). ZACK SPENT A TOTAL OF 1 HOUR IN THE TANK EACH TIME AT 1.5 ATA. If IT TAKES 15 MINUTES TO GET TO THE 1.5 ATA PRESSURE AND 15 MINUTES TO COME BACK TO ROOM PRESSURE THEN HE IS ONLY GETTING 30 MINUTES THATS TRUELY AT 1.5 ATA. Zack started his 2nd round of 40 dives on 1/12/09....he stopped HBO for one week (2/2/09-2/6/09 due to the flu (headache and sinus conjestion). he and his dad both got sick with the flu so I don't think the sickness was due to HBO. My questions: 1.WHEN SOMEONE SAYS GIVE 1.5 ATA FOR 60 MINUTES DOES THAT MEAN 15 MINUTES TO GET TO THE 1.5 PRESSURE.......THEN 60 MINUTES AT 1.5 PRESSURE.....THEN 15 MINUTES BACK TO ROOM PRESSURE WHICH IS ACTUALLY A TOTAL TIME OF 90 MINUTES IN THE CHAMBER???? 2.What specific vitamins and what doseage of vitamins should Zack be taking while doing HBO? You mentioned Vit E in the prior e-mail. 3. Zack still has 20 sessions left in this second round of HBO and I'm considering lengthening his dives to 90 minutes or 120 minutes. 4. Zack seems somewhat improved from the HBO (improved conversationally) but I can't name exactly what has improved. Shouldn't his improvements be MORE OBVIOUS? This is why I am considering longer dives or higher ATA. Thank you for your help, Gale 3708 Holly Drive Palm Beach Gardens, Fl 33410 561 625-3924 grw55@...
