Over the last four year the American Association for Hyperbaric Awareness

(AAHA) has been working behind the scenes to bring hyperbaric oxygen therapy to

the forefront in the treatment of servicemembers with Blast Induced Brain

Injury.

Our meetings have taken us to Capital Hill were our association has been

recognized by the Congressional Brain Injury Task force as the sole

representative for therapeutic hyperbaric oxygen. Representatives of AAHA met

in the

White House to discuss how Hyperbaric oxygen could be effective in treating the

silent epidemic of the War of Terror. The signature wound of the War on

Terror could affect between 60,000 to 400,000. Treated in a timely manner,

hyperbaric oxygen can prevent, in large part, the lifelong disabilities these

silent injuries bring. Hyperbaric Oxygen has been identified by the Office of

the

Army Surgeon General as early as 1990 as the definitive treatment of

neurological abnormalities brought about by the overpressure generated by the

detonation of IEDS ( the principle weapon of the insurgents). Each month that

passes between 513 and 872 soldier will be affected by these weapons. The

lifetime care of these heroes cost US taxpayer increases by between 4 and 7

Billion

dollars with the new casualties of Blast Induced Brain Injury.

Help us to help the veterans and bring to the forefront the value of

Hyperbaric Oxygen as the definitive therapeutic tool in treating neurological

abnormalities in blast casualties.

Contact your Representatives and Senators on Monday. Ask your them to find

out why we are not using hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the use of blast

induced brain injury and for limb salvage. Ask them stop by the American

Association for Hyperbaric Awareness booth on 12 March 2008 in the Capital

Foyer in

conjunction with events of the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force

commemorating Brain Injury Awareness Month.

Awareness of the value of Hyperbaric Oxygen is the first step in bringing

Hyperbaric Oxygen to mainstream medicine and seeing it reimbursed
