When I called your center to see if you could treat my husband with Medicaid I was told it would not pay. He has Medicaid, can you treat his TBI or not? Maybe I don't understand the system. I am off next Sat., maybe we will drive out to your center. Are you in on Saturday. I have your web page and phone number, I can call and let you know when I will be there. We at SCHM also charge the SAME EXACT PRICE to all of our patients regardless of their insurance and financial status..but as has mentioned, we just don't expect to receive the same amount of return or reimbursement. Here's and example.. I would Betcha' that and his center have never turned in a patient to a collection agency for the remaining balance or difference between what the patient actually paid in cash and what they were charged for the " actual retail price " . This situation is a product of several legal demands and parameters that all centers in the US must abide by, but in an attempt to allow as many patients as possible to receive HBOT many centers have found a way to be flexible or creative and still be perfectly legal in their practices. As suggested, you might try to submit the necessary paperwork to Medicaid or another insurance company for " pre-authorization " for treatment. Several of our patients have had wonderful success in getting HBOT paid for by insurance this previous year, and we are seeing an increasing amount of coverage every month. Guest guest Posted December 4, 2004 Report Share Posted December 4, 2004 As others have stated, it is against Federal law to charge anyone less that you bill to Medicare or Medicaid. So there are clear constraints on what the billing charge is. One of the odd things that the IHMA discussed with Medicare in the meeting last May was that Part B (physician fee for free standing clinics) is one flat fee regardless of the time, while Part A in Hospital is charged in 1/2 increments. Right now with the Medicare reimbursement is based on a 1 1/2 hour treatment times for wound care. They also are reimbursed about $100 less for treatment than hospitals. The clinics right now do better without the time being changed to 1/2 hour increments so IHMA didn't act to change that reimbursement practice under part B, as it would be a disadvantage to the clinics doing 1 hour instead of 1 1/2 hour treatments. I have a Chiropractor who charges the insurance or he will give people a reduced rate if they need his help? is he also violating this law?
