Thank you

You sent this at a perfect time. My son (three years old, twin)

had hip surgery, January 14. He has CP. He is doing very well considering he

is in a body cast. He has dipeligia spastic CP in his legs. He walks with a

walker. I have been doing so much research on HBOTand other therapies. We

would love to go to Florida to have it done, we live in Colorado. We do not have

the money. We have private insurance. He does not qualify for Medicaid. They

say our income is to high and that his CP is not BAD enough.

Thank you again for the reading. I truly believe it.

Tina: Did they actually *say* that - that your son's CP was not BAD

enough? I assume then that the individual who told you that also

walks with a walker and has had the same hip surgery that your son

had to have because of his CP and then also spent " x " amount of time

in a body cast. (Can you hear my facetiousness?) Because, unless

they have walked a mile in your son's shoes (and that would be a

mightly long mile for someone assisted with a walker!), so say that

his CP is not BAD enough is the epitomy of stupidity, IMO. It is

comments like this that make me realize that the bureaucrats making

life altering decisions for our children have no bloody idea what

these children go through and what little heroes each one of them

is.

Lynn,

It drives me crazy as well. The qualification go by income or if one day

your child will need to be taken care of fully (a home) or if your child

would need to spend three months in the hospital due to his CP. It has been

very

frustrating because our private insurance does not pay for services like

Medicaid. We have to fight to get physical therapy approved. We are going to

try

to get two times a week now because of his surgery. I'm also going to try

hippo therapy for him (horses) Medicaid pays for it and our insurance does not.

It is very expensive. His twin brother will go too. Our seven year old son

will also take horse back riding lessons because we can't leave him out. My

husband is self employed, he does flooring and I stay at home. It is hard

enough

having to pay for the premiums. His braces cost us $2000.00 a year. The

insurance only pays $800.00 a year for durable medical equipment. So we had to

pay for his walker and his swash brace which cost $1400.00. It drives me crazy

because a child like him really deserves Medicaid. He will always get

everything he needs it would just be so much easier for us if EVERYTHING was

covered. I just want him to be the best he can and get all the help he needs.

I

wish things were different. Until they have a child of their own they have no

idea what it is like.

Thank you for keeping me in mind. Tina
