Guest guest
, HBOT definitely increases the appetite and we have seen unusual weight gains during hbot. Since the problems may be hypoxial and neurological related and probably are, it would be very logical to think it may help. One thing is certain, with your child's diagnosis the effect hbot would have in all areas would be a strong reason for giving it a try. Many times a G-tube alone does not improve the problem. Guest guest
dear , reading about your Isabella was like me telling my Isabella's story .. exactly the same , hypoxia at birth , N-G tube the first two months of her life ,she was ok cognitively but was really hurt physically . she failed to put on weight and doctors wanted to put a GT for her . We decided against it because she could eat by mouth but not very easy , but we wanted to keep trying . at the age of six i knew of HBO and it helped her a lot , she was more relaxed , able to eat better , swallow better , and i guess absorb better , she started to put on weight , had better health . i believe HBO helped boost her immune system and her metabolism . don't go for the g-tube , i have friends whose child had a g- tube and still vomited and now she is trying hard to wining him of it . HBO will definitely help your daughter , i believe if HBO was available for our girls at birth directly after their hypoxia , they wouldn't be struggling now .. you said : I am sure this is not helping her developmental progress and is probably one of the main reasons none of her major milestones have been reached. I am sure being underweight weakened your body , but it is not why she couldn't reach her major milestones . her weight problem and her failing to do what she is suppose to do at her age is the results of her brain injury . HBO will help heal her injured brain which would have a positive effect on her development . love Viviane Viviane From: moscarello8 medicaid Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 5:04 AM Subject: [MedicaidforHDOT] Weight gain problems. Can HBOT correct? Hi everyone, I have a 14 month old daughter who is struggling to gain weight. She is only 16 and 1/2 pounds. Her birth weight was 10 pounds, 3 ounces. So she is obviously not gaining very well. She eats rather well and has a pretty good appetite, but sometimes a lot of her food is vomited. She is on prevacid but that is not helping like it used to. Her doctor wants a G-tube put in but I don't think that will solve the problem. Bella was on a NG tube for a while (her first four months of life) and when she had to throw up, she still did. Does HBOT ever help kids to grow??? Or does it help with GERD (reflux)? I am desperate because she needs to start growing. I am sure this is not helping her developmental progress and is probably one of the main reasons none of her major milestones have been reached. Oh, she suffered a HIE (hypoxia) at birth and also has cerebral palsy. Her mental/cognitive seems to be okay, but her motor area (basal ganglia) in her brain was hit hard by the lack of oxygen. Also, does anyone know about HBOT in Ohio that is medicaid covered? Has anyone been successful in getting their private insurance companies to cover these treatments?? We have medicaid and Medical Mutual. Thanks for your help!!!
