Guest guest
Y'know, I have to agree with what Darin is saying here. We've only done one round of HBOT in a chamber a few minutes from our home and it was still incredibly disruptive to our lives. My husband and I and several family members committed to making this happen but my other child had no choice - he was simply along for the ride - and it was disruptive for all involved. The Catch-22 is this -- how do we know how many treatments our child will need? I agree that it is wise to start with a commercial chamber to make sure that your child benefits but once you've ascertained that, it becomes a slippery slope. At up to $10,000 a pop, I can understand why parents might very quickly decide they are better off to invest in a chamber at home than to do multiple rounds at a commercial facility. None of us go into this knowing what the endpoint is and I cannot help but think that it would be easy to get three or four rounds into this, figure out that your child needs long-term HBOT and then be sorry that you hadn't taken the $30,000 you've already spent and put it into a home chamber. Guest guest
I all so agree, if we all had money to just run and jump it would be great. All so it is the cost of 40 to 300 hundred dives that get you it is not that we do not want to help our loved one's but it is that the home chambers are ours and we can use them all we want with a one time fee. 40ty dives at $150.00 dollars is $6,000.00 dollars think of that and even if you had your own chamber then the $10,000.00 would pay for the chamber even if it was not a 100% chamber. You are still trying and they are still getting the oxygen even if it is not as much. There is nothing more that I would love to see and that is that my son be a 100% chamber but we would haft to travel so far to get that done. Some people can not take traveling that well and some just do not want to go that far. It would be great if all states had a place that was easy to get to and affordable. Guest guest
Did we decide co-ops were the way to go with the multichamber being in one of the owners' house? Would the extremely knowledgable help the unknowing set up a HBOT co-op? Other groups, such as Autism/MS/Lyme, should be welcome. Guest guest
Marie, The UK HBOT trust is built on that concept. However, I think in the US there are substantial legal and liability issues. Esp. if the chamber is in one's house. The " house " would then have to be certified as a clinic under all rules and codes. Unless the house is rural, it would be an impossible task, or at least at a very high cost. Note: these same issues make it very unwise, if not impossible for a family to share " their " chamber (collapsible, or not) with any other family. Personally, I think all the rules should be changed to support valid and controlled therapies and focus on the practicality and personal/family economics of availability. Guest guest
But the $10,000 question is if you treat with less than 100% oxygen and at less than optimal pressures you will still see improvement, but will you see or even handicap that brain from reaching its full potential, that is the full potential that 100% oxygen seems to deliver based on Dr. Harch's work? Do you want to take the chance of seeing x% improvement when their could have been xyz% improvement? We can argue this until we are blue in the face - the issue is getting these treatments paid for by the third party payers that should be.
