Hi ,

I am new to the group and we are just starting to research the best place to

take our son Max. He is 10 months old with a brain injury. Can you share any

ideas on how you went about your fundraisers? I plan to do a

newsletter/flyer to friends and family and talk to our church. Any input is

appreciated.

Which state are you in?

Is Max a Medicaid recipient?

The first question is where do you live?

There are several great clinics across the US.

Hi Ed,

We are in Indiana. I have been told to look into U. of Mich., U. of Chicago,

and Prev. Med Group in Ohio. We are willing to go anywhere but the closer

the better considering we will have to make several trips. But we do want to

find the best place for Max. Any input would help, we are anxious to get

started.

Thank you,

I am a parent of a severely CP girl () who has done well with HBOT.

My suggestion is to go to the absolute best HBOT center you can get to and

start your journey there. Then, focus on repeat treatments in the local

and accessible (and less expensive) centers.

There are a number of things you will learn by going to the best

center. First, getting a very experienced Dr. to evaluate and access your

child. Getting good SPECT scans that can be used to fight for

reimbursement and to track progress.

Learning the best safety practices, nutritional support, physical

therapies... (and half of your education will be from other parents in the

waiting rooms.)

Also, just learning more about the HBOT and what it is doing, and what it

isn't for your child.

From the midwest, you can easily get to Dr. Neubauer in Lauderdale by the

sea, as well as Dr. Harch in New Orleans.

I doubt U of C has anything. I graduated from Northwestern's B-school and

have been trying to get them to look at HBOT, but the research groups

prefer drug and surgical therapies.

I live in California and we currently travel to Santa for HBOTs (1

hour flight away) which has become re-known in its own right for its

children's care. It gets kids from all over the country and patients from

all over the world as well.

But, we started 's HBOT with Dr. Neubauer, in Florida. I still have

fond memories of and I alone in Florida for those months! But,

Florida was also good for us because my parents were only two hours away so

we visited them every weekend.

I hope this helps. But, again, I strongly recommend going to the

absolutely best clinic you can get to in starting these therapies. Every

journey starts with a single step. But, if your compass is off when you

start, you are less likely to reach your chosen destination.

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Warm Regards,

When you find out about Indiana Medicaid, please let us know the standing.

As you are aware of from this website, Federal Medicaid laws prohibit

states from avoiding reimbursement for physician prescribed treatments that

can ameliorate a child's condition (a generous position). Thus, the state

must pay if you have a physician's prescription.

Hi Ed,

Thank you for the advice, it was exactly what I was looking for. Someone to

give me a starting point. This is a little overwhelming and a lot to absorb.

I now plan to focus on Neubauer and Harch and go from there and also need to

work on fundraisers.

Thank you, I will keep you posted

I have an interesting post if you'd like to read it. It is about the

duration, 02 levels and dosage. My three daughters were treated by Dr Harch

in 1994. You will love him.
