Guest guest
Hi, my name is Joanne Brindley. Briefly, I have a progressive neurological disorder called: Dystonia. One day while receiving HBO for wound healing, I discovered I was able to move my leg in a way I had not been able to for many years, inside the chamber. One thing led to another and I eventually started receiving HBO in Louisiana (I live in Massachusetts). HBO at the right depth and length of time has controlled my symptoms as no other treatment has. After 1 1/2 years, most of my symptoms are still at bay, even with reduction of medication. The ones which have " snuck back " , subside after subsequent dives. " Break outs " involving new locations, also subside after HBO. As far as we know, there is only one other person with Dystonia who has received HBOT. My reason for writing are 2 fold. First, are you aware of anyone else with Dystonia and/ or anyone involved in research involving HBO? Second, Medicare covered the first round of treatment " accidentally " . They refuse to cover my additional treatments, predominately because it is not an approved treatment for Dystonia. I am currently awaiting a date for an Administrative Law Judge Hearing and was wondering if you may have information and/ or suggestions. Any information you may be able to provide will be greatly appreciated. If I can provide additional information, please feel free to contact me at: auntie_j@... Thank you very, very much! =) Joanne L. Brindley ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Joanne, First, get an attorney. In our case before the ALJ it was critical that evidence was entered into the official record. There are rules of evidence that must be adhered to and most lay people are just not familiar with those rules. Although the evidence in our case was ignored twice by Georgia Medicaid and then a third time by the ALJ, nonetheless having evidence as part of the official record was invaluable once our case was appealed. Second, for some time now the American public and the United States Congress have been wrestling with whether or not Medicare should have a prescription drug benefit. Right now Medicare has no prescription drug benefit. Since Medicare has no prescription drug benefit, then Medicare (and its administrative arm HCFA/CMS) cannot be a legitimate authority on prescriptions. Since Medicare/HCFA/CMS has no legitimate authority on prescription medications (from lack of knowledge from lack of experience), then how can Medicare/HCFA/CMS legitimately govern the use of the most medically necessary drug on earth: Oxygen? Shouldn't this circumstance impeach the governing authority of Medicare/HCFA/CMS as medical decision makers as to the appropriate use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ " Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
