Hi Debby,

I just tried it from the bottom of your note and it worked fine. Perhaps it

was having gremlin :) problems at the time you tried. Keep trying and let

me know if you have more problems with it.

I couldn't get there with that address either, but www.luxurylane.com did work.

I have been unable to access the library. The address I am using is

http://www.luxurylane.com/thelibrary/index.htm I would appreciate it if

someone could tell me what I am doing wrong. I am especially anxious to

obtain recipe for the lotion bars. Thank you . PACA

Hi Gail,

No, I don't think you're being unreasonable. Don't give up on them.

It seems to me that there are a few things here that need clarification:

1. Most children at school get to pick out a library book, " sign it out "

& take it home for a week & then bring it back to school. This activity is

getting confused with the skill that you want Seth to learn - that is,

looking at a book IN the library & NOT taking it home. Maybe this needs to

be stated to them or maybe he could do both things - look at a book at

school & also bring one home.

2. It is my understanding that school children ( & adults, too) are not

allowed to re-shelve books (not at the school library or at the public

library) because they may put the book in the wrong place. However, there

should always be a cart or a designated place to put a book that you have

looked at in the library & that you do not want to sign out. They should

show Seth where this spot is & help him to learn to put his book there when

he's done looking at it.

3. Cardboard Books vs " Real Books " : I agree with you that Seth should be

able to learn how to respect books with " real " pages by having an aide

gently guide him to learn how to gently turn the pages without ripping or

mouthing them. has come a very long way with this skill to the

point where we can now give her a " real " book & 75% of the time she will

treat it with the necessary respect. It's a very important skill & it seems

like Seth is ready to try it if you think he is. Besides the number &

variety of cardboard books is very limited & as Seth grows older, he will

quickly tire of them. Of course, I would continue to give him complete

independent freedom to look at cardboard books without an adult at his side.

After all, reading is an independent, private activity which will bring him

life-long pleasure.

I hope some of this will help. Just my thoughts.

Good luck with this important issue!

Love,

Our Library Pages are under construction. We invite you to explore them and

provide your suggestions of improvements, Links to be added, etc. The idea is

to have a place where you can go and do research on a specific neurological

disorder. There is still a lot of work to do and they will be under

construction for a long time, maybe forever. If you have suggestions, do not

post them to this forum but email them to: Library@...

The link to go to is http://MiracleMountain.homestead.com/COVER.html

Thanks
