That is such great news, Becki! Wow - it certainly pays to be pro-active, doesn't it! Good for you! And it sounds like its going to be GREAT for ! Way to go, sounds like you've got a really valuable advocate in thatPT person, as well as the rest of that team you mentioned. Sounds like it was a pretty full day.

Wow Becki this made me cry. A happy cry! I'm so glad that little david will get the best start ever to one of the most important things in his life ..school! Pat yourself on the back and know that for all that you have to go through , their is a little justice in the world ...we just have to fight for it !!!! :):):)Tree:):) s IEP Hi its Becki, anyone who responded to me about IDEA and 504plans giveyourself a much deserved pat on the back. All I wanted to do was find outwhat they were and get some ideas before started kindergarden fall2003.Well one thing led to another and he started getting speech rightbefore christmas, then they started talking about preschool and gave himevery test they had, yesterday we were supposed to get results notplacemant.Well the PT that evaluated stole the show, she workedwith JRA kids at the arthritis clinic in Memphis, and was able to explainto them how misunderstanding this disease can be that we dont see him atnight after a full day or how hard it can be just to get up in themorning. She was his biggest advocate and wanted him to get PT now notnext fall.So these 7 people got really excited and had to find away toget certified in 2 areas so he would be able to go under IDEAinstead of 504.It was alittle frustraiting at first because all theseteachers kept saying the same thing ,he is advanced in everything so wecant say hes this or that, the school sychologists thinks that hes giftedand wants him tested even though they dont test preschoolers.I cantremember how they did it,but they did it. starts special edpreschool 2 times a week for half a day.He will go to music on mon andgym on thurs. The pt has already talked to the gym teacher who issupposed to be great. The idea is to get him ready for full days ofpreschool next year and to get an idea of his limitations. There is alotof walking around and she wants to help him build muscle and stamina.Icould go on and on,but I wont. The OT that i didnt like changed her tuneafter learning about JRA and that we are trying to keep him flexable notto fix things,so she wasnt going to recommend it,needless to say will be getting PT and OT.She was so appoligetic to me.She just didnotunderstand like most people dont. All is great and is reallyexcited about being able to go to school with his big sister.Hugs toall, and THANK YOU! Becki..this is terrific news! To find someone besides you and the doctors.

For someone reason and a very sad one..alot of school officials don't

understand what a child with jra goes through. To me..the physical therapist

you found was sent from somewhere to be yours and davids angel.

I was really happy with Tabs high school she is in but now they are giving

me trouble about her absences..now i have to call the nurse when Tab is not

feeling well and tell her what is wrong..then she will give me her opinion

if she should stay home or not. Which really makes me angry..i feel like i

am a little kid who don't know how to judge when my child is not feeling

well...they don't understand that Tab just gets worn out..that this disease

can just totally wipe her out..energy wise.

Sorry to ramble on..tired of the aggrivation. I will be glad once she

graduates and is out of the school system..and college bound.

But I am happy for you and your son..good luck!

Here are some IEP information that NJ had in the year 1999-2000

right before our move oct 2000 to the twilight zone!

Impulsivity- characteristically makes quick, erroneous decisions, reacts

immediately as if by reflex

Distractibility- has limited ability to tune out extraneous stimuli,

supersensitivity to both internal and external stimuli

conceptualization- demonstrates a disturbance in the ability to formulate

concepts

weak auditory discrimination- demonstrates an inability to interpret or

organize the sensory data received

weak auditory memory- an inability to store and retrieve previous auditory

perceptions, particularly once the original sound is no longer present

Expressive language deficit- a deficiency in skills required to produce

language for communication with others ( speaking, writing ect)

is cooperative

actively participates in classroom activities

attends school regularly

respects property of others

This is to name a few
