(HealthScoutNews) -- Your child downs that new candy you bought, lickety-split. And the next day he ends up with a bad case of diarrhea. Before you call the doctor, take a look at the candy bag. According to the journal Postgraduate Medicine, sugar-free candy often uses sorbitol as a sweetening agent. Sorbitol is sweet and safe, but it can also be an effective laxative. So rule out the candy before you treat the diarrhea, the journal says.
