It is my understanding from my pharmacist, that the

Mtx WITHOUT preservative can only be used one time. K.

was on mtx with preservative, and for some reason it

isn't available right now which is why she was

switched.

As far as Enbrel is concerned.............I think your

rheumy has a lousy attitude/bedside manner. I would be

SO turned off by his statement to you. K. just started

Enbrel last week. It's been a LONG road. I had hoped

for a significant improvement, but she's only had 3

doses so far, and I guess I'm impatient (only because

I was told results would be immediate!).

Hi,its Becki.I questioned mu sons rheumy about using non preservative

Mtx more than once, and he still believes if I keep it in the fridge it

is safe.I am starting to question his abilities as a dr,nobody else uses

it more than once,I have called pharmacy after pharmacy they wont say

anything other than talk to the Dr.who prescribed it.Rheumy told me its

a personal decision.Personally the patiant insert says " for single use

only " and as far as the fridge is conserned-keep at controlled room temp

vith a variabe of 56-86 degrees. The patiant insert even talks about an

iv solution that can be refridgerated for 24 hrs after being mixed at

90%effectiveness.So now I wonder if it loses potency after being opened

or being kept in fridge. goes to the pediatrician this afternoon

for first shot ,I have decided that I am not going to take any

chances,my baby is going to get the purist most potent dose he can

get, every time.I never want to have to look back and wonder if s

not responding well because the drug loses potency after being opened or

refridgerated. If the rheumy gets upset tough shit.He will just have to

get over it.

Hi Becki

s dad here

our dr has used the non preservative mtx he says that it just needs to be

kept in the fridge and to make sure you use a alcohol swab to clean the

bottle and a new syringe each time.

we use what the pharmacy gives us and it has the preservative in it.

good luck

I wanted to let you know that my daughter got non-preservative over

preservative one month because the preservative Mtx was out of stock. All

month the shot stung and the nurse at the Rheum. said others had complained

that month and we made sure we got the one with preservatives from then on.

Holly's first injection was on friday too, and she has the one with preservatives in it, and she didnt complain about it burning, but i do have to say not wanting to put ideas in her head didnt ask either. But she didnt complain about anything beyond the pinch from inserting the needle, even pushed down the plunger to basically give herself the injection. She is 7, and even asked me last night, how many times she would have to get the shot, before she could do it all herself. Aj

hi,its Becki.Im a little confused.s rheumy put him on preservative free

because it wasnt supposed to burn,he got his first shot last fri at

pediatricians office. he did great with the shot until the needle was out and

he hollered take it out, take it out.It had been out for about 3sec so I know it

was the MTX itself that hurt.He also only cried a LITTLE bit and he was so

proud of himself ,he is barely 3.If anyone could tellme what kind of MTX shot

they get(preservative or non preservative)and if the medicine burns or not I

would greatly appreciate it.Thanks a bunch! Becki and 3systemic

Hi,its Becki.I think its great that Holly is wanting to give it to herself. My

brother was diagnosed with jeuvenile diabetis at 4 and by 7 he was giving

himself injections 2-3 times a day I have heard they can be taught as early

as 5 though. is going to the pediatricians office for at least the

fist 4 weeks while they teach me.My mom told me to practice on an orange

that it is the closes thing to skin(35yrs ago anyway)mayby that is something

Holly can try untill you and the rheumy feel it is ok for her to do it

herself.

I hope the second goes as good as the first.Oh,by the way is Holly

just starting MTX or just starting injections?

Hi Becki,

Shoot! Josh had his MTX injection today and I completely forgot to ask

the nurses if his did or did not have the preservative in it! I'm sorry

about that.

I also just wanted to say how proud I was to hear how well 's

injection went. He sounds like a very brave little guy :) I remember,

though, how painful those tears used to be ... for me! ... when

was just a little guy. Not for his MTX injections back then but just for

the ordinary blood draws. My gosh, he used to have to get his blood

drawn so frequently, too. I'm really glad that it's just once a month,

now. And it doesn't bother him at all, anymore, after all of the pokes

he's gotten.

Gentle hugs for ,

Georgina
