Guest guest
Hi e, On all the Dallas News Stations tonight was a report of the enormous shortage of all types of RN's we are facing throughout Texas. Please tell me what a PACU Nurse is, and I will relay it to my daughter, who is a Womens HealthCare Nurse Practitioner, and all her 'Nurse Friends' she started with years ago, she stays in contact with on a frequent basis! Blessings with love, MM/ NSIF Martha Murdock, DirectorNational Silicone Implant FoundationDallas, Texas Headquarters ----- Original Message ----- From: cvrn8@... SalineInfo Cc: Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2001 2:42 AM Subject: More info Just wanted to let everyone know that I will not be leaving for Saudi Arabia. I have recently heard a lot of scary stories about the way women are treated over there. Plus as time goes by, the agency who has recruited me tells me more things that just irk me. Like I have to wear a white uniform with white shoes. I'm sorry, but I have to change my life to go over there. I certainly don't want to have to change what I wear to work and what I'm comfortable in. The other thing is that I would be required to work 2 12 hr shifts, then have 2 days off, then work 3 12 hr shifts, and start the cycle all over again. That is very difficulty to do physically (for me). 10 hrs is my max. And everyone keeps telling me that I will really have to bite my tongue when I'm there because I'm so outspoken and opinionated. I truly feel that I'd have a very difficult time acting like a slave and having no rights. I have done a ton of research and I have come to the conclusion that I just can't do it. And unfortunately, the Australian thing fell apart so that's out of the picture for now. So, I've decided to do travel nursing. I want to continue to work in the recovery room, but there are few places where PACU positions are available. There is a position in Houston at Methodist Hospital, so if anyone can provide any info about Houston I'd greatly appreciate it. I already know I'm scared to death of the roaches!! I've heard that as soon as you turn off your lights, they're everywhere. And not the little roaches, but the huge flying ones!! Is this true? So, anyway, for those of you who were worried about me leaving the country, I'm not. And I get to keep my little baby kitty, Farley. But I'd like any info on Houston that anyone has. I've been there to visit friends, but never lived there. I've only lived in Dallas (which I loved). So, tell me what y'all think about it, and also include any comments on the hospital if you know of any. Thanks a lot, e

Guest guest
Martha, A PACU nurse is a recovery room nurse (PACU--post anesthesia care unit). We have acronyms for everything in healthcare! I would really like to come back to Dallas, but there aren't that many travel assignments available in Dallas. There are some ICU positions available at Medical City Dallas, Presbyterian, and Methodist. I figured there would be lots more. I worked at Presbyterian in their ER while I was in nursing school--didn't like it too much. Needless to say, I quit and got a job at Baylor Medical Center, which was convenient because Baylor Med Center was right across from the nursing school. I really do miss Dallas. I used to love to go to Deep Ellum and out to eat on Greenville Ave. I still have a lot of friends who live there. Oh, well. Did they ever finish the construction on Central Expressway, or are they still doing it? Last I heard, they were still working on it. When I was there, it was closer to the Knox St exit, but I guess it's moved further north now. e
Guest guest
Martha, That blows me away about Central--they finished ahead of schedule? Amazing!! 8 yrs ago, I never would have thought that! It was such a nightmare driving on it, not to mention dangerous. Your daughter sounds like she's been very successful. Does she have her own practice and have full prescriptive priviledges? If I come to TX, maybe we can all meet!! I'd have to go to Baylor Nursing School and visit all my instructors and see friends. There was a place on lower Greenville Ave that began with an S. They had the best margaritas and cheese fries in the world. If I remember, I think it was a couple of miles before Mockingbird Lane. It was actually closer to Gaston Ave. I would drive up to Dallas from Houston just to get those cheese fries......yum. Do you of anyplace similar to what I'm talking about? Well, take care and we'll chat soon. e

Guest guest
Hi e, Glad to see that you won't be going to Saudi! I was really wondering about that and if you were going to be able to handle that in your condition anyway. Travel across the globe halfway around the world sounds a little risky when you have suffered with what you have. I know all about the Saudi culture--one of my best friends has lived there for over 10 years. She is not too fond of the Saudi's anymore. Good luck in your search for the right job for you.
