Beautiful story. I beleive I read this in one of Erma Bombeck's books but

the name escapes me right now.

sharing a story

This story was given to me from another mother who has a child with a

heart condition. I want to share it with you, beacuse it helped. I

don't know the author so I can't give credit, but maybe you could

share it with some one who needs it.

Most women become mothers by choice, some by accident, a few by social

pressures and a couple by habit.

Did you ever wonder how mothers of handicapped children are chosen?

Somehow I visualize God hovering over earth selecting his candidates

for parenthood with great care and deliberation.

As he observes, he instructs his angels to make notes in a giant

ledger. " Armstrong, Beth, a son, patron saint, . "

" , , a daughter, patron saint, Ceceila. "

" , , twins, patron saint....give her Gerard. He's used to

profanity. "

Finally, He passes a name to an angel and smiles, " Give a child

less than perfect. "

The angels is curious. " Why this one, God? She's so happy. "

" Exactly says God. " Could I give a handicapped child a mother who does

not know laughter? That would be cruel. "

" But has she patience? " asks the angel.

" I don't want her to have too much patience or she will drown in a sea

of self-pity and despair. "

" I watched her today. She has that feeling of self and independence

that is so rare yet so necessary in a mother. "

God smiles. " Yes. This one is perfect. She has just enough

selfishness. "

The angel gasps, " Selfishness? Is that a virtue? "

God nods. " If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally

she'll never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a

child less than perfect. She doesn't realize it yet, but she is to be

envied. She will never take for granted a 'spoken word.' She will

never consider a 'step' ordinary. When her child says 'Mommy' for

the first time, she will be present at a miracle and know it!'

" I will permit her to see clearly the things she will

encounter...Ignorance, cruelty, prejudice......and allow her to rise

above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every

minute of every day of her life, because she is doing my work as

surely as she is here by my side. "

" And what about her patron saint? " asks the angel, pen poised in

midair. God smiles. " A mirror will do. "

I hope this helps as it has helped me>

That is so neat. My son has autism and did not really start saying words until almost four years old and he started by singing songs with the right pitch too. He has really hard time to follow the right volume, pitch and intonation when he speak a sentence when he is not singing. So it has to be that the brain has copied it and just somehow repeat it. The only time that I have notice that he speak normally and totally clear is when he has like 104F in fever. Totally fascinated since usually a person without disability would probably have its speech alter to become slower and unclear. Something with the fever made is head wired so his autism seemed totally gone. Do not understand this one from a biological aspect. Maybe the impulses speed in the brain are affected by body temperature?Sänt via BlackBerry från Telenor. From: " McIntyre" <smcintyre@...>Sender: Date: Thu, 28 Jul 2011 15:44:03 -0400< >; <orlowskiNMD@...>; <jsbwisconsin@...>; <info@...>; <@...>; <palmerdj01@...>; <cartier21@...>; <info@...>; <gwyn@...>; <monasmody@...>; <jamurph@...>; <kphillips@...>; <erobinson@...>; <sjw121880@...>; <jillgreen@...>; <lisa.piccininni@...>; <michelle.cousins@...>; <amber.oswald@...>; <tncaz@...>; <rachelkong3@...>; <kb@...>; <info@...>; <dmillett@...>; <@...>; <denisetift@...>; <ggrsmall@...>; <lynn@...>; <laura@...>; <delia@...>; <mjkutler@...>; <mpdoc@...>; <eunyae@...>; <lisa.hinshaw@...>; <jmurphy57@...>; <stauf03@...>; <barb@...>; <taravreal@...>; <hewardmark@...>; <jilmaryw@...>; <marcia589@...>; <kristin.tdd4kids@...>; <jcricher@...>Reply Subject: Sharing a story Hello, My name is McIntyre and my wife () and I went to the Irvine, Ca conference back in Jan, 2010. Our son, Christian, who is in the autism spectrum, is now 6 and is going into 1st grade in the fall. He has made some great strides since the conference and we only wish we had the time to do more of the MNRI as we have seen improvements in many areas. While we were out there, some of you may have remembered that Christian was showing some musical talent and was playing some keyboard and singing (mainly “sound of music” songs)? If you do remember, great, if not, hopefully you will enjoy this. We have now discovered that Christian is a musical savant and can literally play anything he hears, so long as it holds his interest. He has absolute pitch and thus anything he hears is essentially a data download for him to recall whenever he wants to play it. Fast forward to last week when he heard the Bruno Mars song “Just the way you are” on the radio and started to sing the chorus at the end. I asked him if he liked the song, to which, of course he replied with a resounding “YES” and I downloaded it on my iPhone. He listened to it again at home then decided to play it. Considering what we all go through as parents, I think this song is especially fitting as I do believe he is “amazing” just the way he is J. Hello,

My name is McIntyre and my wife () and I went to the Irvine, Ca conference back in Jan, 2010. Our son, Christian, who is in the autism spectrum, is now 6 and is going into 1st grade in the fall. He has made some great strides since the conference and we only wish we had the time to do more of the MNRI as we have seen improvements in many areas. While we were out there, some of you may have remembered that Christian was showing some musical talent and was playing some keyboard and singing (mainly “sound of music†songs)? If you do remember, great, if not, hopefully you will enjoy this. We have now discovered that Christian is a musical savant and can literally play anything he hears, so long as it holds his interest. He has absolute pitch and thus anything he hears is essentially a data download for him to

recall whenever he wants to play it.

Fast forward to last week when he heard the Bruno Mars song “Just the way you are†on the radio and started to sing the chorus at the end. I asked him if he liked the song, to which, of course he replied with a resounding “YES†and I downloaded it on my iPhone. He listened to it again at home then decided to play it. Considering what we all go through as parents, I think this song is especially fitting as I do believe he is “amazing†just the way he is J.
