Guest guest
Techniques for Assessing Bone Mass http://www.rawatch.com/rawatch/p/community/hnews/HNews.asp?RecID=86 Arthritis Review published an article reviewing and assessing quantitative imaging techniques used to assess bone mass in those with rheumatoid arthritis. The techniques reviewed included plain radiographs, absorptiometry, quantitative computed tomography and ultrasound. The most widely practiced technique is dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), according to Arthritis Review. Monitoring bone mass in RA patients is important because bone mass is lower in those with RA and after the onset of the disease substantial bone loss can occur, stated Arthritis Review. Arthritis Review explained the use of either DXA or ultrasound maybe a useful tool in the measurements of bone mineral density for RA patients.
