I guess I should probably try avoiding the sun with the ANA being so high. Well any advise ladies? Thanks, PS at least is wasn't bad enough to keep me from work or make me loose the positive attitude I have had lately. Guest guest
Hi Ladies, None of us should risk the sun for any reason. If you have any possible chance of Lupus, the sun is your worst enemy, and you will eventually pay dearly for the 'few minutes in the sun' to make you look healthier. Before I knew what was going on with my BIs & my body, I chose to try to get my as 'suntaned' as a Scotch-Irish person can get, by using tanning beds & sun by the pool, etc., a few years ago. I cannot begin to tell you what this indulgence eventually did to my health & my skin. I cannot begin to tell you how many $$$s I've had to spend getting some innocent-looking skin cancers removed, because now I don't heal properly. The end of 2000, I was concerned about possibly losing my right foot & lower leg, due to surgery to remove a skin cancer that would not heal, creating an underlying ulcer that would not heal, etc. This cost me a few thousand $$$s, plus 3 months of near total immobility. The sun may also cause innocent looking blisters that don't itch, burn, or bother you in any way, other than when the blister goes away, you are left with a brown spot -- not a slight tan spot -- a ugly brown spot that nothing will remove other than more surgery! Please do not consider this as anything more than 'information', as it may not happen with everyone. However, I know of many women who have had this same experience with BIs & the sun! Guest guest
, With your ANA so high, indicative of lupus, this is classic that you would feel that way after being out in the sun. People with lupus or high ANA's usually are sun sensitive, and can only tolerate being out in the sun for an hr or less (if they're lying out). So, most people have to wear hats, extra sunscreen and in general stay out of the sun (and heat) as much as they can. The body aches and weird head feeling are typical of what results with sun exposure. e
