Guest guest
Hi Patty, This is very encouraging news, and you will all have my prayers on behalf of the Nevada Ladies, although this seems to throw another 'kink' into the overall Dow Settlement, I think it may be worth it in the long haul! Thanks for the update! There was some very moving testimony by the women there, along with that of some women here in Las Vegas. The Committee did not have time enough to hear all of our testimony, so a select few were chosen to speak. Lori Gilmour and I spoke on behalf of saline implanted victims, while Charlotte Mahlum spoke on behalf of all implant victims. Others spoke on behalf of sick ones who could not be there, and others gave a moving account of the tragedy of their life since receiving silicone implants. There were many tears. Geoffrey White, the attorney who won a $4.2 million verdict for Charlotte Mahlum in Dec. 1999, gave a very detailed and clear account of the injustice suffered by the injectees, as it related to the history of the Dow litigation, and how the statute of limitations has robbed them of their chance to be heard in court, as well as the fact that those with ruptured silicone gel are indistinguishable from injectees in a technical sense where silicone migration is concerned. Roy Cannon, a Nevada attorney who has about 50 injectees as clients also spoke. He is the one who wrote the actual legislation submitted to the Committee, and it was received very favorably. The goal was to extend the statute of limitations with this legislation. The committee suggested just eliminating it altogether! Wow! That was more than we hoped for! Needless to say, they were very moved by our stories. The challenge now will be to gain the full support of the Senate and Governor, so it isn't vetoed once it reaches his desk, as is what happened to a similar bill in the state of California. We have our work cut out for us, Nevada ladies. We need to keep the letters going out to them. If this legistlation is passed, Geoffry White stated that he will take any and all breast implant litigation cases that he can. He'd be a good one to have on your side! So, be encouraged. It is still a long battle, but the miracle is that they were willing to listen to us in the first place. We've passed the first hurdle, now we need to pass a couple more for victory. I have faith. Love, Patty
Guest guest
Martha, or Patty or Anyone How will this throw a kink in the Dow Settlement? If this is going against McGahn for faulty implants? Does Dow make them then sale them to the other manufactures? I guess I just thought Dow made the Silicone, and then the other Companies make the implants from the chemicals. Annnnnnnnnd I was assuming that this was a seperate Class Action Suit? But you know what they say about people who ASSUME. *S* It hit me hard when you mentioned that it could throw a kink. I am in the worst financial mess, and was so hoping for this Settlement to be done by the end of this year. I to am on Social Security Disability as my only source of income. And have Major Medical Expences. I HATE BIG CORPORATIONS! THIS IS SO UNJUST! God Bless Debe > Hi Patty, > > This is very encouraging news, and you will all have my prayers on behalf of the Nevada Ladies, although this seems to throw another 'kink' into the overall Dow Settlement, I think it may be worth it in the long haul! > > Thanks for the update! > > Blessings, > MM / NSIF > > Martha Murdock, Director > National Silicone Implant Foundation > Dallas, Texas Headquarters > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Patty > @y... > Sent: Tuesday, May 01, 2001 1:21 AM > Subject: Hearing and Testimony > > > Hi Ladies, > For those of you who were wondering how the hearing on April 26th went before the (Nevada) Committee on Health and Legal Issues, it was very good. > > There was some very moving testimony by the women there, along with that of some women here in Las Vegas.
