Guest guest
- oops sorry about that. Kidney reflux (aka vesicoureteral reflux) is where the ureters are allowing the bladder to send urine back up into the kidney after it has drained into the bladder. Sometimes the ureters are positioned on the bladder wall incorrectly and sometimes its a problem with bladder pressure sending the urine back up. Constant pressure from the urine from the bladder backing up and frequent UTI's can cause scarring in the kidney's. Because of this patients are put on prophylactic doses of Septra/Bactrim to avoid UTI's. Kidney reflux is diagnosed in " Grades " with Grade 5 being the worst and usually operated on to reposition (re-implant) the ureters in the right place. Macey has Grade I which means they saw the urine go up the ureter but it never re-entered the kidney. There are several reflux links on Macey's links page http://home.att.net/~maceyh/organizations.htm Kidney reflux is generally diagnosed in pre-school children and thankfully most outgrow it by the time they enter school. We are hoping that this years test will show that it has corrected itself.
