Guest guest
Bill, Thank you for your excellent post! I agree with you that the dx and treatment should be a team effort! I was pleased that my neuro worked closely with the ortho as well as a number of other providers. I appreciate your thorough and objective post - many of our members will benefit from the info you provided! Guest guest
Hi , I saw your listing on the plagio web site and since you are NJ / NY based I thought I'd respond for the very first time on this web site to the notion of making the interventional decision. My name is Bill Roche and I am the Clinical Director of the Regional Craniofacial Center at ST. phs Childrens Hospital in Paterson,NJ. Our subteam on Plagio/Flat Head Syndrome meets 3x a month. The team consists of a pediatric neurosurgeon, craniofacial surgeon, physical and occupational therapist (all peds),an oral surgeon, radiologist and 2 vendors the DOC and the NIC. We seperate the decision making from the vendor. It is a collaborative effort. We are proud of our outcomes and the vendors who service our children and parents. The peds docs feel comfortable because it's medical base at the Center and not focused any one entity. We average 62 referrals a month from the tri state area and 20% on the average wind up in a helmet,1% surgery ( for multiple reasons) and about 60 % get PT intervention for torticollis and or positioning sessions. We encourage all babies to get a team opinion with a mix of the docs who deal with the head and neck in a collaborative effort. Remember you as the parents as well as your peds doc are important cogs in the wheel to assure a timely and accurate intervention.I would be happy to entertain any questions you may have at rocheb@... The Center was the feature of Dr. Fields piece on Flat Head Syndrome last week on channel 9 and I can try and get a copy to your peds doc if you care. Be persistent and be an educated consumer.
