Length of JRA: 10 months Child's weight: 33 lbs. Current Meds: 3/4 t. Naprosyn morning & night 1 1/4 pred. once a day 7.5 (three tablets) MTX on Friday nights Vitamin w/400 micrograms folate once a day ~ No alternative meds used -- except tons of veggies and fruits Grace is currently considered to be in a " medicated remission. None, but will start again on Methotrexate 2.5 mg/week (injected) and Folic Acid 1mg/day 2. sometimes Motrin 5 mg, if needed 3. will have Joint Injections on Sept. 10/99 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. If yes, how long did they last?: She was in remession for 4 months, without medication, prior she was on Methotrexate 2.5 mg oral and Folic Acid 1mg /day. She was also on Motrin 4 times a day (5mg each time). Took her first of Motrin and then of Methotrexate. Started with new inflammention in July 1999. Decadron (dexamethasone) 8mg X 3 week (Pic line) 2. Decadron 1/2mg X 4 weekly (oral tab) 3. Prilosec 20 mg X 1 daily (oral tab) 4. Calderol (vit D supplement) List side effects you notice with medicines: Increased appetite. Hair growth. Weight gain. Mood swings. Forcefulness. Alternative remedies: 1. Chiropractic care X 1 weekly 2. Multi vitamin with iron 3. Vitamin C 250 mg a day 4. Milk Thistle 8 drops X 3 daily (to help liver function) 5. Chewable acidofilus 6. 1 Tab flax oil (high in omega three fatty acids) when I can slip it into a smoothie. Any reemissions: It seems like she has one right now. First one since onset. Guest guest Posted September 15, 1999 Report Share Posted September 15, 1999 Child's First name: Sara Parent's First Name: Afsi & Bob Child's age at JRA onset: at 19 months of age she was diagnosed with Polyarticular JRA but we started noticing the problem when she was 15 months(It took the stupid doctors 5 months to figure it out- they thought she had behavioral problems!!!!) Child's current age: 3 years and 3 months Length of time with JRA (years/months): 2 years and 8 months Child's weight: 32 pounds Current Medications/Supplements and the frequency/dosages: 1. Methotrexate (5 mg/week) 2. Folic acid (1mg/daily) 3. Sesamee street Vitamin supplements 4. Mineral oil (for constipation) (1 1/2 tsp/daily) 5. Zantac (1/2 tsp/daily -- but coming off of it) 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Any Alternative Remedies Used? No If yes, please list: 1. 2. 3. Any Periods of Remissions When Meds Were Not Necessary? No- but with MTX she has very minimal swelling in her hands and no place else. Also no pains or stiffness at all (Thank God!!!)
