Guest guest
I must tell all of you about a wonderful example of activism on behalf of all AIH patients by of your members. In fact, all autoimmune diseases will benefit from her actions. A few months ago the San Bernardino Sun (Southern California) did a front page story on The FAIR Foundation. The reporter interviewed Dr. Hillebrand (Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at Loma University Medical Center) on disproportionate AIDS funding that negatively impacts all other diseases like AIH. Dr. Hillebrand is on our Board of Directors. After the interview, the reporter wrote the article and called AIDS an " autoimmune disease. " I was dismayed to see it incorrectly labeled because of the inappropriate reflection on AIH, PBC, PSC and other autoimmune diseases, however, it was in the newspaper and there was nothing I could do about it. AIDS clearly is not an autoimmune disease although HIV does attack the immune system. Sometime subsequent to the story running, our webmaster put the story in our " In The News " link http://www.fairfoundation.org/media/news_results.htm. I had forgotten about the story long before. Skowron (name used with permission) joined many of you and became a member of The FAIR Foundation from this AIH group. While investigating our site, she noticed the error!! and kindly asked me if there was anything we could do to correct that mistake by the reporter because some people incorrectly think autoimmune diseases are caused by behavior. It's not uncommon for twenty people to join The FAIR Foundation in a day and she is the first person to point out that error by the reporter! How sharp of her and what a wonderful example of activism—standing up for one's disease and speaking out. I had it changed immediately. Three cheers for !
