M.: Have been hoping that your surgery went fine & you're on the mend.

For some reason, I had it in my head that it was going to be done on the 6th but

looking back at the posts, I see that it was the 16th (so I had confused that

one--big surprise there). Let us know how you're doing when you feel up to it.

Shawdale: I'm hoping that you got a chance to talk to someone & weigh out your

options (so many other things to concern yourself with in addition to your

health issues.) Please give us an update, if you can....

I am finally over the worst case of shingles I've ever seen with the exception

of one area that has some residual pain. Now, I have a issue-ascites. I gained 8

lbs. almost

overnight & my belly is quite large & hard as a rock.I have 4 boxes of

clothing that I hung on to as I began loosing weight and have gone through them

and nearly all of

them are too tight & uncomfortable to wear.I've only been to the store once

this week

and spent the rest of the time inside in night gowns. I did find one pair of

slacks that I can put on & zip up but not button and will have to wear these to

a family birthday party this afternoon,

Called my gastro's office but learned on the recording that my nurse

coordinator had the day off & that one should only speak to the other RN if it

was an emergency. So,

Monday I'll call for water pills. Then I started looking up info in

Palmer's book.

So now I have a question for Joanne. Have you known anyone that had a shunt

put in

for ascites. Not that I think that's the route I need to pursue. I was

surprised to see that this is now done. My mom had the TIPS done for esophageal

varices. So just curious & you would be the one that I'd expect to be informed

on this. I did read that

Aldactone is used & in looking back, I can think of a few elderly patients

that I gave this to back when I worked in a nursing home.
