Guest guest
My doctor suggested that I begin tapering off the 6MP from 100 to 75 mg. I have been doing so now for several weeks. The main problem I am experiencing, is the extreme fatigue and wanting to sleep for 10-12 hours a day. Has anyone tapered off 6MP? If so, do these symptoms go along with the tapering process? I think I am going to put in a call to my GI this next week to see if this is normal. Thanks for your input. Debby
Guest guest
I hear from many people who take Mercaptopurine It's most commonly called 6-MP (easier to say). Other names are Purinethol and 6- Mercaptopurine. I don't think I've heard anyone say 6-MP say caused problems for them. 6-MP may be used by people who don't tolerate azathioprine (Imuran). Recently, someone wrote on another site that they thought 6MP may cause problems for those who can't use Imuran. I've not heard this anywhere else -- I'm not where I can look it up right now. Can anyone provide thoughts on this? Let us know how this goes for you. Harper [ ] New to group > > > Hi, > My name is . I am 41 and I have AIH/PBC. Guest guest
Harper, I didn't explain right I ment to say the 6mp is helping with the liver functions. But I can't tolerate the urso because it makes me throw up. Which means I am not able to control the cirrhosis. Guest guest
Harper, My first doctor added 6MP after repeated flares each time prednisone was reduced. He told me that he preferred 6mp as he believed it had fewer issues than imuran. I have only had only a couple of very minor things with it since starting on it 10 yrs ago. First was during that initial adjustment period you go thru with lot of meds - had bad nausea which passed after several weeks. Then one that I still have on and off are muscle cramps in legs, feet and hands. Not sure what triggers that, but it is my least favorite part of the med. nne On Sat, 3/12/11, Harper <flatcat9@...> wrote: From: Harper <flatcat9@...> Subject: Re: [ ] 6MP Date: Saturday, March 12, 2011, 11:00 PM  I hear from many people who take Mercaptopurine It's most commonly called 6-MP (easier to say).
