Guest guest
I have only a moment to write now, but I want to get some response to you quickly. I increased Prednisone from 10 mg to 70 mg, for about 2 weeks. I don't remember exactly. I took Acyclovir with this, and Percoset. Pain continued to be intense, like a broken bone, and I got a nerve block. From what I read, getting the nerve block done early greatly decreases the risk of very long-term or permanent pain. Later, the success rate decreases to only 30%. I take Neurontin for pain relief and dropped the Percoset as the pain became less. I found that taking small doses of Neurontin at frequent intervals caused far less side effects than larger more infrequent doses. When the skin is very painful, I found the clear gel version of Caladryl to be soothing; sometimes chilling the bottle helped. When deep internal pain was a problem, I found that extremely hot hot showers, directed right on the painful areas, made a big difference. I took many showers a day at first, although getting undressed was often hard to do. A neighbor said that her husband had shingles and felt better lying naked in a hammock; he spent weeks that way. Best wishes. harper In a message dated 3/10/2004 3:57:51 PM Pacific Standard Time, writes: Message: 1 Date: Tue, 9 Mar 2004 15:48:18 -0800 (PST) From: Judy Christiansen <judy101943jd@...>Subject: HarperHow much did you increase the prednisone at the onsetof shingles? Thelesions are on my left leg from mid-hip down to abovethe knee and over into the pelvic region. They aresomewhat cleared up, but the pain, itch and numbnessremain. I have numbness all the way down to thebottom of my foot.Everything you have said and I have read says that theolder we get, the more apt we are to have long-termpain. And, due to our suppressed immune system, weare likely candidates for shingles to return. I'mkeeping my fingers crossed that this will clear up andI won't have to pursue a nerve block.Any suggestions on how to make this process of healingmore tolerable??Judy C - OKC

Cora Unfortunately, even little children get them. You must have had chicken pox first, of course. The likelihood of getting shingles increases to about 50% if you live to 80. Hi Leaves of Joy, Nice to hear your voice here, It was such a pleasure to see your presentation at the alchemy conference! I wish we had had time to speak at greater length. Don't know if you remember me, I was with and the distiller booth selling my art prints. Your Spagyrics simple radiant with integrity, presence and love. I would recommend them to the folks on this list very highly. You seem like a " priestess of plant teachers " 93 Katlyn
