Guest guest
So far I have heard from 2 moms that they were told to limit exersaucer time. Does anyone know why this would be? I certainly have been using it a lot! Does it have to do with Torticollis? Please let me know...anyone! Eileen and Frazier
Guest guest
I've also heard the child's back "sways" in the exersaucer. Our pediatrician said twice a day for twenty minutes each time is plenty. Benita mother to Lucy and Annie
Guest guest
Too mcuh time in the exersaucer can prevent a baby from learning how to crawl and eventually to walk I think. Guest guest
OK, thanks Kathy, I thought maybe it was something to worry about with Tort.
Guest guest
Eileen, I was told that the tort will worsen after long periods of time spent in the swing, excersaucer, bouncer, because there is no support to maintain the head midline....the child must do this themselves (unless you prop in the swing, bouncer, but then that can create more plagio problems as they are on the back of their head). The excersaucer is strictly muscle used by them, so you cannot prop or support. I allow to use the saucer in moderation....1) because he LOVES it, 2) because I think it does strengthen muscle tone. I just don't leave him in for hours, or even 1 hour. I think 20 minutes- is fine. Hope this helps in explaining! ' Mom
Guest guest
Eileen, I'm pretty sure it has everything to do with the tort. I will ask CT at our adjustment on Friday. Let us know if you find out before then. Guest guest
Eileen, We were told multiple times not to have an exersaucer or jumper or anything like it by 's therapists. In our case it was because was born prematurely. They say to limit time in the devices because: 1)the best way for babies to spend time in on the floor. This is where they learn everything they need to develop properly (i.e. rolling, sitting, crawling, etc.) and 2) excessive use of exersaucers and walkers can cause toe-walking. Especially if they are placed in there when they are too short. However, I will say that we did use in a jumper and exersaucer (hey..I was desperate for something that would keep his attention!) but limited him to no more than 15 minutes per day..max! Of course, when we first met with the ped. neurosurgeon he stressed he would like in it more so he was off his head as much as possible Can't please everyone. Anyway, not knowing how it applied to tort. ( never was diagnosed..he just had a preference to the right side) I searched on Google and found this website (http://pages.ivillage.com/torticolliskids/torticolliskids/id4.html) that said to limit time spent in exersaucers/walkers, especially while they are starting to gain neck strength and to definitely stay away from jumpers. Guest guest
I read that you should limit exersaucer time because too much time (more than 15 minutes or so at a time) could hinder hip and leg development.
